Sky Plaza is featured on this rather amusing blog:

No matter what people's opinions on new student accommodation, it can't be debated that student accommodation has never been so good- even if you do have to pay more.

Looking at the postings on there, it appears to be a bunch of moaning amatuers who like the typical British passtime of grumbling so much they've set up their own website dedicated to it. Going by the level of English language, there's certainly little professional architectural element on there; it appears they've just found the Unite website and are going through it systematically pulling everything to pieces.

I suppose that's what the general public think though.

I don't mind Sky Plaza anyway. Much prefer the front to the back though.

Not sure it's just amateurs as plenty of architects read that blog. They've been mentioning it quite a lot in the architectural press lately. I think you're maybe taking it a little too seriously.

Anyway, IMO they're right about Plaza. It's not a good building. Such a shame too because it actually looked half-decent in the renders.

I must admit, i'm pretty disappointed with outcome. The choice of colour coordination is absolutely horrendous. I definitely prefer the light grey/black facade. It should have been that like all throughout (including the removal of the tasteless green strip).

When viewed from the West or South the building doesn't look so bad, and the slender profile is certainly a redeeming feature, but the view from the East and North is appalling - Every time i come into Leeds City Centre from York Rd i cringe, the general skyline looks unbelievably tacky and very awkward.

Anything rendered by Dibbers looks half decent, and in many cases downright wonderful!

I don't mind this building personally, up close it leaves a lot to be desired but from a distance it has a very powerful impact on the skyline which I enjoy.

I agree, and I too prefer the black facade.

The skyline would be much improved here with one good quality crowning building for the cluster around The Plaza.

I'm not keen on it, but as for Rob's comment, I don't see how people not being architects somehow disqualifies them from having a view on buildings. The ordinary people are the ones who have to put up the blinking things at the end of the day. How many of us on the Leeds forum are architects? Maybe the rest of us should keep shtum, especially if we dislike a building?

Perhaps I didn't make my point clear, I didn't consider them professionals, but didn't consider them general public either, I thought they were a group who specialised in moaning and pulling things to pieces.

Not being an architect certainly doesn't disqualify anyone from a view, I'm not an architect and I have plenty of views.

The Student Village in Wolverhampton is 77m tall. Maybe she confused the 2. They do look similar from the back.

Or more likely getting it mixed up with the neighbouring Tower North which is 77m.
