Actually Sky Plaza is separate to 'Phase 1' as you call it, which is actually called Plaza.

I do agree with Splemdidineogh about the first phase of the Plaza. It is truely horrible and looks unfinished with the mix of block work and grey plastic/metal cladding. The actual brick cladded part of it doesn't look too bad but the rest of it is a mix match of materials that look like a fucked up refurbishment of a tower block.
Regarding Broadcasting Place. I can understand why a lot of people don't like it as from far away it kind of looks like a big lump of rust at the top of the hill (at the moment). It's not exactly easy on the eye from Park Row, Millenium Square etc. Once the building has suffered a couple of years of weathering the angled offsets on the blank facade will hopefully stand out and improve the public's opinion about the building. A lighting scheme for the blank facade is still needed. It looks shit once it's starts to get dark.

Sky Plaza is only the tower. The rest of the development is 'The Plaza' (or during construction 'The Plaza Phase 1 & 2'). Also Sky Plaza faces out of the city with its back on the City Centre.
I don't know how you can even start to defend the Yorkshire Post building. It is a concrete carbuncle that should be rebuilt at the nearest opportunity.

The main entrance to Sky Plaza faces Hepworth Point though, so the "front" is facing the city centre.
The tower's much better quality than the lowrise element of the Plaza. |

Hey guys, I have been a long time reader of this forum and have FINALLY decided to register, after promising myself I wouldn't...anyway...I just wanted to say that as ugly as this building may look from certain angles in the daytime, I think it really adds to the night skyline. I was coming down Scott Hall Road into town the other night and the skyline is really beginning to look impressive! I was with a friend from the London area, and I was actually quite proud to point this out to him. He also seemed to be quite impressed by the height of it as we drove past it as well - it's a good job it was indeed dark, otherwise he may not have had the same opinion!

Omg, I actually took the same picture the other night to post, but mine was just a phone pic so no point in posting it.
BTW Sky Plaza actually isn't 37 floors. Its 34 or 35 cant remember, but when I was shown around the lift didn't go that high, and the woman informed me it wasn't 37. |

Looks like Skyplaza is set to get a slightly taller 'sister' over in Manchester. It looks similar, but is set to pinch Skyplaza's tallest student tower crown by 3m.

I thought for one horrible moment that was the Manor properties tower.
Not being in Leeds though, the cladding will be ten times better and it will look ok. |
