CLASS!
The flourescent strip lights on the box behind really compliment that lovely old City Hall!

They're just fun lights... The tower needs them - though it's odd they chose blue lights instead of green ones that would have matched the lift core. It looks pretty good at night tbh.

That particular shot of Leeds does look horrendous and old fashioned. I remember thinking the same thing when I saw it flying into LBA once. If those tower blocks in the top right of the pic were demolished, it probably wouldn't be so bad. Sky Plaza looks just fine.

Yup, one grotty city-fringe area looks pretty much the same as another city-fringe area.

As a part-time Brummy, I have to admit Five Ways is actually not too bad. The cinema/casino area especially. Though the best part of Five Ways are the roads out of it!

Edgbaston has a nice array of building shapes that compose a rough skyline-shaped silhouette, yes, well noticed.

This block actually looks much taller than its 103 metres suggest though.
I'm pleasantly surprised at the number of tall towers that are being topped out / erected in Leeds and Sheffield in recent months. It would appear that, unlike in cities such as, say Birmingham where with the exception of the Cube, every tower proposal is practically on indefinite hold, the economic downturn hasn't affected as many of the tall tower schemes up here in the north. |

Yeah, really!
I mean, what's happened to all of those fantastic skyscraper proposals Birmingham has been planning? - one of them (Snow Hill Tower 3) appears to have bit the dust. Care to elaborate and give us the updates as to what we can expect Birmingham to come up with in the next couple of years (definite go-aheads that is, not 'proposals') before cities like Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield overtake Brum in the tall towers stakes.... |
