What's so cool about that room is that it works to recontextualize the image of the city in ways that facilitate a critical process of revision. The milling past and post-industrial present collide, evoking an image of a city that is trying to re-invent itself.

I'm a British girl who took a big severance deal in 2009 and blew the money on a 90 day roadtrip around the USA. I travelled through 40 states and covered over 15,000 miles. I visited many major ciities and if you asked me which I would settle in if I could then I'd say Minneapolis or Portland, OR.

I spent a little under a week in Minneapolis and I loved the feel of the city, the people and the architecture. Plus, I finally got to see The Twins play at home at The HHH Metrodome (they only had 3 regular season games left when I saw them thrash Kansas there.

I hope to visit there again as soon as money and circumstances allow.

Sounds like you've seen more of the US than I have and I've lived next door in Canada for almost 30 years. I like the feel of the US midwest in general. Never made it to Minneapolis, but loved northern Minnesota. It's an awesome state.

There are probably several hundred British expats living in the area. Many are in their 30s and 40s with families and have lived in MN for a long time. Twin Citizens take pride in their European ancestry and have a pronounced reverence for all things foreign, particularly the British. If at some point you decide to move, and if you can manage the sometimes brutal winters, I imagine you'd do very well here

Interesting. Minnesota is in league of its own when it comes to natural beauty. As you drive to the south of the state, however, you will find the scenery change quickly from dense forest to open prairie not unlike the one found in South Dakota and Nebraska.
