surprisingly the diaspora that north chennai predominantly comprises of is North Indians, saurashhatrians and Gujjus, seth ji's and urdu aware muslims (well almost hindi speaking)
And so it is a paradoxical statement made by me that what would one from delhi think about this area... but my question is why isn't government not cleaning up this area and have them slowly turn livable, likable and not laughable. |

Just because the roads are narrow doesn't mean that the area is dirty. Places like Washermanpet, TH road are clean for most of the part. As someone mentioned in the Madurai forum that mentioned cinema has spoiled MDU's image. The same goes North Madras. Almost all villians in a Madras based movie reside here or at-least all their henchmen does. Do you know what business most people involved? Sea food processing and warehousing. Royapuram station handles ration goods. Moreover refineries and storage area are located near by. Also harbor's coal and ore handling area contributes to pollution. Gradually they will move to Ennore and the atmosphere will clear up.People there don't complain. They know who is living in their street and there are no veggie only apartment complexes. As some one mentioned earlier if the area is cleared up and given to private players it will result in Adarsh of nth order. More over it will push people living here way outside city limits. |

true and still believe me in another 50 years it will not improve much. Only explanations can be given in paper on the various polluting factors. Nothing will be done about it and dream on dream on dream on until your dream comes true. |

How about New York? After Kolkata will be London soon
, why not Chennai take NY as its role model? Tamils in NY can be roped in for the purpose. Possible thoughts:1. Make MTC on par with NY bus service. 2. Anna Salai to become like Wall Street/Times Square to be created locally. 3. Pavements/road furniture to be like New York. 4. Double-decker buses. 5. Chola Tower/Pandyan/Chera Tower on the lines of Empire State. ![]() The last one really gives me a kick. |

It's really sad for someone who likes Chennai to see the shabby state of OMR, which is supposed to be the premier road of Chennai and the v.badly maintained overcrowded buses. On top of that, after 9-9.30 pm I and my friends found it difficult to get buses because frequency was low. 9-11/12 pm public transport needs to improve a lot. In Mumbai I believe the last local leaves at around 1 am. If I had to change three things:
1. 400-500 AC white Volvos intra city. 2. Rest all modern low-floor disabled-friendly with other facilities and conductors having ETMs. 3. Better garbage disposal. |

Interesting to see Chrysler's office at RMZ park... Any idea whether its their R&D wing or financial/back office wing?
Few years ago there were talks of Chrysler setting a plant in India. But it did not carry forward(That was when Daimler and Chrysler were together I suppose).. Now Chrysler has an unit in Chennai, it won't be too long before it decides on a plant.. Lets see what they are gonna do... |

That is the local suburban trains with half hour frequency between 11.30 P.M to 1.00 A.M that runs in Mumbai and caters to 70% of mumbai's commuters.Mumbai's BEST (Bus transport in Mumbai) services frequency is very low beyond 10.30 P.M.Even in Mumbai the BEST service is no more best. The buses are illkept and overcrowded like in chennai.Mumbai muncipality's main problem these days is garbage disposal and they are unable to find new sites in the outskirts to dispose. The existing sites are full and people living in the suburbs resist dumping the garbage near their vicinity.Innumerable pot holes on roads is another problem faced by mumbaikars which magnifies during the monsoon.I am typing this info sitting in a suburban household in Mumbai.
