Congrats Vikas
SSC is proud of you. Keep it up. http://www.cipe.org/blog/2012/04/16/.../#.T452v7NDuCc Fourth Annual CIPE International Youth Essay Contest Winners Announced Posted by Jon Custer| April 16, 2012 CIPE is pleased to announce the winners of the fourth annual International Youth Essay contest today. This year we received more than 400 entries from 65 countries, including Afghanistan, Cambodia, Cameroon, Egypt, Indonesia, Moldova, and Uganda. The three categories this year were Corruption, Democratic Transitions, and Economically-Sustainable Development. The winners were selected by an international panel of judges including CIPE’s partners from business associations, think tanks, and other international development organizations around the world, as well as CIPE staff. DEMOCRATIC TRANSITIONS 1st Place: Vikas Prakash Joshi (India) Joshi begins with the provocative point that, in addition to being the world’s largest democracy, India is also “the world’s youngest democracy,” with 54% of the population under the age of 25. However, he also notes that not all of these young people are educated, English-speaking big-city residents. Tens of millions are farmers living in rural areas or poor workers in cities “for whom the biggest worry is where to get their next meal.” “The tragedy in India,” Joshi writes, “is that this section of the youth is so busy struggling to survive that democracy and politics mean nothing to them.” Joshi then lays out some concrete steps that can be taken to get young people more involved in politics, both as candidates and party activists and as engaged, informed voters. For instance, he suggests that youth organizations can put together a “youth manifesto” before major elections articulating specific concerns of young people, or use technology and social media to maintain the momentum of political movements. |

Thanks a lot guys!
Actually, more than the money or any other thing, for any prize and in any category be it sport/music/literature/art/painting/etc, what really means a lot to a person is that particular moment when one comes to know one has won a prize and also the appreciation of other people. In my office, friends and of course you guys in the cyber world all your appreciation is really appreciated and I want to thank all of you. Even my office fellows were shaking my hand a lot today ![]() . However, I know this is a small, minute even insignificant thing. Just wanted to share it with you guys without any attempt at boasting. Happiness shared is doubled Thanks once again for your collective pats on the back. ![]()

Vinod sir, what chess is for you in a way writing is for me. At 17, I won a consolation prize in a local level writing contest. Then at 19 I came second in a national-level essay writing competition. Now at 23/24 I am first in a global-level writing contest. So step by step. Nevertheless I hate boasting so I am not. Just sharing my happiness, these moments of happiness which life is all about

I agree its not a big deal. By the way, there is another writing (also global-level) which was organised. Those results will come out next month and if I get through, then for the first time, something I have written will be published within the covers of a book. However, the contest has recieved some 1,500 entries from literally all corners of the world and therefore competition is damn fierce. It was organised as part of the 150th birth anniversary of Tagore. They are going to select a certain number-I think 200 entries, and compile them into a book. That book is going to be released in India in 3 cities (not sure if Bangalore is one of them). Each winner will get a copy of that book so wish me luck guys!
