The attitude that every other state has it so why can't we, or the attitude of how is it possible to do business with other states when we are at different times is backwards if you ask me.

I am not scared of change...I love change. But change that makes something not as good as it currently is or just for the sake of change is stupid.

If it confuses tourists, wouldn't it be bad for tourism?
And it wouldn't be good for the Gold Coast either given it's right on the border with NSW. The Gold Coast should adopt it regardless.

Hasn't the Gold Coast City Council considered adopting it at their offices???

Yes I want daylight saving - bring it on.

I walk to work a hour earlier - an hour cooler. Get to work fresh. As it is I'm soon going to have to get in my "old" car and drive to work as its getting too hot too late in the morning. We all know that this adds to air polution and increases my carbon footprint. It also means I have to search long and hard for a car park and move my car around the suburb every two hours. Yep - great for the environment.

Secondly I don't mind walking home in the heat of the afternoon - as I can then have a shower anyway AT HOME!!

Thirdly - I can then walk to the gym as its still light. Daylight saving means not getting in my carbon pruducing car to go to the gym in the evening.

So when you look at it - with daylight saving my carbon footprint shrinks dramatically.

It should be adopted throughout South East Queensland - after all we are further east than most of the country.

I can understand that other parts of Qld don't want or need it. Divide the state into two time zones.

Thats why I support it in Queensland. Everyone gets to be up during the cooler part of the day. At the end of the day, you can cool off with a swim in your pool or at the beach. It's also good for the earlyrisers who do their morning run/jog/walk or swim.

I don't think Daylight saving in winter would lead to any real benefit for anyone. In that case i'd be still be dark at 7:30am when most people are going to work or school, like it is in Melbourne in winter at present.

It's nice seeing the sun up at 6:30am in the middle of winter up there, as opposed to 7am here in Sydney. I remember in Brisbane last year seeing Sydney in the dark whereas there was light outside.

These are all great reason for - and i'll add one more (or two as the case may be) - i can't wait for my kids to start waking up and getting out of bed at 5am as the sun is streaming in (sunrise 4.30am)!!!

Brisbane is the most eastern city - i think the actual sunrise and sunset times suit Brissy way better when working in with life, eg. even with dls we won't ever be dark at 6.00 or 7.00am which is when most people are up and about - did Anna Bligh bring this onto the fast track agenda recently?

Wow this part of the forums is so hidden, I've never been here before. I think that Queensland should have the same as NSW. Imagine living on the border of the two states and using the NSW timezone and having to travel into the Gold Coast for work or whatever. It's a pain in the ass, I've done it before.

Btw, 3/379 your username as a percentage is 0.79155672823218997361477572559367 %

btw, Brendan, I quite like your username as well - i regularly use it when not on the net actually....spelt perfectly too.

I share your pain! It is so annoying and also when people call me Brandon. It's like, um it's an A ffs not a fucking O. Btw swifty, we have such sexy first names don't you reckon?

Anyway we completely just hijacked this thread to let's get back on topic. I'm going to say something really random that makes people think I am actually contributing to the thread when really I am making this up:

Yeah I think that daylight saving should be used in Queensland basically because of the confusion with other states. Geographically VIC, NSW and QLD all have the same latitude (or is it longitude??) so I don't understand why QLD shouldn't have daylight savings when QLD and VIC do.

Once again a sign of weak government and an inabilty to move with the times.

from www.news.com.au

QUEENSLAND Premier Anna Bligh has ruled out a fresh vote on daylight saving.

The question of introducing daylight saving was defeated in a 1992 referendum 54.6 per cent to 45.4 per cent.

In June, former premier Peter Beattie commissioned research into whether Queenslanders had changed their views on daylight saving since the vote 15 years ago.

Ms Bligh said today that Cabinet had considered the research.

While there was a clear majority of people in favour of daylight saving statewide, only 36 per cent supported it outside the southeast corner.

"In light of these results cabinet has resolved that the Queensland government will not be supporting daylight saving for Queensland nor will we be going to a referendum," she said.

Ms Bligh said the Government also rejected a trial of a zonal system which would have involved the southeast moving to daylight saving.

She said the survey of 1000 residents and 600 businesses found 59 per cent of people statewide and 69 per cent of southeast Queenslanders were in support of daylight saving.

But there was little support outside the southeast corner.

"We have to govern for all of the state and I cannot and will not ignore rural and regional Queensland," Ms Bligh said.

Once again we have a strong government that knows what is best for the state

Good decision IMO.

Weak leadership as far as I am concerned. Bligh had a chance to show some strength but she collapsed at the knees, it could have been her first significant achievement for the state. I would nearly bet KJBrissy that you grew up in a more northern part of this state and have never spent extensive time living in an area that has daylights saving. Once again the majority of QLDers suffer at the hands of those who want to hold the state back.

Born in Sydney, lived most of my life in Brisbane and spent the rest of my life in the Fraser Coast...hardly the northern part of the state.

Bligh has done the right thing, daylight saving does not suit somewhere as close to the equater as Queensland. Brisbane is in the far south, and is the least affected, but the time difference becomes sillier the further North and West you go. I'd hate to see selfish voters (mostly new arrivals) in SEQ cause problems for the rest of the state. This has already been defeated in a referendum, after a 2 year trial as well, so people could and did make an informed decision.

Are the pro-daylight savings people just going to insist on referendum after referendum until they get their way?

The split state times would never work either, we don't need more differences between the capital and the rest of the state.

So you have never really experienced living anywhere for extended periods that has daylights saving?

Thank goodness. It is too hot up here for daylight saving. NSW, VIC and the other southern states it's fine, but not QLD, NT and WA.
