The city government has invited two more tenders for 5 star hotels( in addition to two being built- the intercontinental and Grand Hyatt). Would be interesting to see if any one of them would go for a highrise.

Islamabad will have a different skyline by 2010.

This building is kind of fun. Although I think comparing it to the Pyramids and the Eiffel Tower is one of the more ridiculous pieces of marketing hype I've seen. But why is it called the Centauraus and not "the Unicorn" or something? It looks like one.

Its another marketing technique. Thats what they got to say on their website.

Why “The Centaurus”?

Centaurus is the brightest constellation in the southern sky, a collection of the most brilliant stars. We wanted to create a mirror image of that on this planet for people who outshine everyone else. People like you, the brightest stars in their fields.

The Centaurus is not just a building. It is a philosophy. It is a tribute to your ability to be ahead of everyone. You deserve something more than today's VIP or First Class.

The Centaurus …because there are people who are miles ahead of competition…and then there are those who are light years ahead.

btw, they have a lovely website...check it out.

Also, they weren't comparing it to those monuments, what the ads were trying to say was that like every country has an iconic structure that is instantly recognizable, Islamabad (Pakistan) was going to have this as one. Kinda like how Burj-ul-Arab instantly reminds you of Dubai.

All I know is that the traffic in this area is messed up especially the service roads, but it's worth it just for this building!

Would certainly be a great addition to the skyline of Islamabad... But I'm sure there are many more such projects coming, let's see who will eventually become the identity of Islamabad/Pakistan.

Unfortunately, NO.

I wasn't in islamabad (except on the eve of my flight) so no coverage from me.

But the contract was just given out recently so i assume a few months time before the finer details are finalized, CDA facilities are provided before you start to see something there.

But its got a comfortable deadline of Dec 2010 so i suppose it would be ready by then.
