New Songdo City- South Korea

New Songdo City is a planned international business center to be developed on 1,500 acres of reclaimed land along Incheon's waterfront, 40 miles south of Seoul and connected to Incheon International Airport by a 6-mile highway bridge. This 10-year development project is estimated to cost in excess of $24 billion, making it the largest private development project ever undertaken anywhere in the world. [1]

When completed in 2014, the city's infrastructure will be a test bed for new technologies, and the city itself will exemplify a digital way of life. (Wikipedia)

The Master Plan, designed by world-renown architects Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), contains elements of other landmark cities while creating a new, unique blend - a "Synergy City." Cities like Sydney Venice, Paris, New York and London all have served as blueprints of specialized designs that contributed to Songdo's overall structure. A "Synergy City" is one that contains all of the major functions that are needed to support the needs of those who live and work there.

New Songdo City

I'm amazed at how South Korea can build a huge and expensive project like this while Japan can't...

Japan, though experiencing its second longest post-World War II economic recovery, will never again be the awe-inspiring and mega-ambitious nation it used to be. I mean, South Korea has already replaced them as the world's largest ship-building nation--a country with relatively and significantly smaller land and human resources.

South Korea is really growing! Wow! This project is really a great addition to Metro Seoul.

It is being built in real life, and at this very time. The city should be finished by 2014, and there will probably be additional stuff added thereafter.

New Songdo City isn't the only other massive real estate project going on in South Korea, there is also Seoul Digital Media City, Centum City, and Myeongi International City. The government hopes to create atleast 60 ubiquitous cities by 2050 (I think). Basically, South Korea is a giant construction site

Wonderful project!!!!!!!!! Never underestimate South Korea lol. Nobody expected several things that are going up now like the Twin Tower Buildings near Inchon and other 100+ story buildings in Busan.

The first building looks like the Freedom Tower and the second one looks like the ICC Building going up in HK. Anyone agree?

I'm not sure XP
But I hope New Songdo gets more original looking skyscapers or landmarks that would make the city really stand out
