New York JFK Airport
JFK is a huge airport with 9 terminals. I decided to tour all of them (except one that is closed). I think I made it to most terminals.
Terminal 1 is fairly nice. It's very spacious. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now off to the next terminal! ![]() The Delta terminal is quite crappy. There is a long walk along the side to get to the entrance. I gave up after a little bit of it because that 'sidewalk' was very narrow and full of people. ![]() ![]() ![]() Terminal 4 is by far the nicest terminal. It's even more spacious than Terminal 1 and quite new. ![]() ![]() ![]() I can't believe HSBC can brand the bridges in so many cities yet not in Hong Kong, where it was founded. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Terminal 5 is under renovation and reconstruction. It is the old TWA terminal. ![]() ![]() ![]() JetBlue occupies Terminal 6. Although it looks old, they've done a good job making it quite functional inside. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Terminal 7 is fairly small, yet it looks fairly decent as well. JFK is not a very old airport it seems. They've done a lot of work restoring the terminals. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() American's Terminal 9 is very good. They're still working on it and will open fully next year. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I like this one the best. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks to the Airtrain, my tour around the airport was complete in about 2 hours. ![]()

The nicest terminal at JFK is terminal 4 IMO. Jet Blue organised pretty good terminal 6, but it need's more space. I heard they are going to take terminal 5 also ( former TWA terminal) and use it as departures and have 6 for arrivals. Meanwhile terminal 5 is declared a national landmark and it cannot be demolished to accomodate a better building tailored as an carrier wishe's. Parking in terminal 6 is not such a easy task. It can take you sometimes 30 minutes to find a space if you are lucky! What I do if I have to park there, I go straight to parking for terminal 4 and walk to terminal 5! American occupie's terminal 8 and 9. Until they finish the job with the building and the parking traveling with American from and to JFK specialy in holidays is a true drama. Sometimes the line to enter 8 or 9 at arrivals is about half mile long!!! Delta , Song and other smaller carriers occupy terminals 2 and 3. Terminal 2 is so so, but terminal 3 is the dirtiest, the more inconvinient and more confusing at JFK Airport. Terminal 1 is the old international terminal. Not bad in the departures, but arrivals are pain in the neck. Parking sometimes can be a problem too while terminals 1, 2, 3 share the same space. What the pictures show above are only the passenger terminals. Cargo terminals are also impressive and occupy almost 50% of the space in JFK Airport. |

And I think it was O'Hare at one point.. ATL could easily be on top by now though..Nice pics.. I would've thought photography was prohibited inside the terminal.. esp with all the latest hubbub..

Even though JFK is not the largest in the US, you do have to take under consideration that LaGuardia and Newark are very close to JFK as well. The three airports together make up metro NY's complete airport structure.
Great pics.

Farmingdale's Republic Airport is a solution. I's relatively close to NYC, between Southern State Pkwy and RT 109. It's small mostly operating private jets and small airlines. Something like fly-on-demand or air taxis. I drove a few costumers there ( I was limo driver until recently). No lines, no security check. I could pass with the limo straight to the airplane. Luggages will pass from my trunk to airplane. The passenger had to walk 30-40 feet. All procedure lasted from the moment we arrived at airport , 'till passenger boarded lasted 7(!!!) minutes!!That's the future. Also Westchester Municipal Airport, Tetersborough (NJ) and McArthur Islip Airport have potentials to fill the needs for NYC growing demand for air travel. |

I think expansion of a Westchester or Jersey airport would be smarter than Farmingdale or MacArthur, since Long Island is a pain in the ass to get on and off. Anyone from LI can tell you that.

I think you are spoiled there in LI....Gated and closed communities, speed bumpers and ridiculous speed limits on local roads and now expanding one airport which will ease the traffic from the "jungle" of JFK seem's so terrible...Let's expand Westchester Airport on the borders with Connecticut! Awwww poor babies! |

What the fuck are you talking about?
LI is growing so slowly it might as well not be. Nassau lost population since 2000, and Suffolk has barely gained anything. Growth is no longer an issue, whereas the northern NYS suburbs and Jersey will still develop by leaps and bounds, which will fill in the demand necessary to make such an expansion successful. People from Jersey and Connecticut may actually be willing to make the trip to Westchester to fly... hell, it's easier than JFK or LAG... but going to LI would defeat the purpose. As for me, I'm a non-driver living in Queens, so JFK and LaGuardia are my only options, expansions of satellite airports doesn't really concern me personally, does it? |
