Well, that's kinda scary.
I'll make sure to avoid this airport.

All self-imposed. They would be growing but chose not to allow it. NIMBYism. Dumb.

No need to argue. They can expand Macarthur for LI'ders and Westchester for NJ, Upstate and CT people. This will relieve a sizable portion using the 3 major airports. This or expand LAG and JFK over the water.

Or other solution....Expanding JFK to all passenger no cargo airport ( and building new passenger terminals at the cargo area)and LGA making it all cargo no passenger airport.

That's no solution. You're not expanding anything, you're just reshuffling.

Newark's terminals are generally bigger, though less numerous.

JFK is still a mess, though they have done quite a bit of good work to improve the airport - but it will never have the "cohesiveness" of the world's best airports unless they level the whole thing and start from scratch. Newark is still New York's best airport, in terms of passenger convenience and airport navigation.

Umm, no one from NJ is going to go to Westchester to catch a flight.

Are you kidding? Conveniece? How do you calculate that? By the hours you sit in Holland Tunnel? By the traffic in NJ Turnpike ( God forbid you have and accident somewhere , you are stuck for hours....By the "shuttles" to NYC( sometimes walking is faster)? Or by the number of NYers it serve's? By the mood of the cab driver IF HE FEELS to go to NJ (TLC rules leave that up to driver to decide if he want to cross the state line)?

From 9 milion NYers, only Manhattan is "close" ....let's say 30 minutes away from Newark....But in Manhattan live only 2,2 milion NYers, the rest of 7,8 milions live in Queens, Brooklyn and The Bronx.

If you have an accident anywhere in NYC, you are going to be stuck - so that isn't a real arguement.

Secondly, what you say about the TLC saying that it is the cabbie's decision to go into Newark is completely and utterly FALSE. The TLC is CONTRACTUALLY obligated to service all facilities belonging to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. If the cabbie refuses to take a passenger to Newark, he will lose his licence....period. Needless to say, in the many dozens of trips I've taken out of NY area airports - not once has a cabbie refused to take me to EWR.

Thirdly, NJT traffic? What, ever been on the Van Wyck during rush hour? Or the Grand Central? Or the Cross Bronx? Yea - as if these roads don't have traffic.

Fourthly, I would rather take Airtrain/PATH from EWR to Lower and Midtown Manhattan than the Aitrain/LIRR from JFK anyday.

And lastly, EWR wins, hands down, if you need to connect to regional rail on the mainland.

I don't have any figures, though I am sure they are out there, but I bet Manhattanites make up a disproportionate slice of travelers in and out of NY on any given day.

Where the hell did those numbers come from?

Manhattan's population is 1.5 mil, making up roughly 1/5 of the city's total pop. of 8.1 mil.

Anyway, as for disproportionate numbers, Manhattanites may not actually travel more than the rest of NYers, despite the seeming "well, they got more money, so they go on business and vacation trips more often", a very healthy slice of residents of the outerboroughs have close family and ties to other countries. What Manhattan does have, however, is a disproportionate amount of people from outside of the region going into it. And why are we discussing city proper in an airport discussion anyway? Oh well.

terminal 1- very nice, spacious modern, lufthansa's, Korean Air's and AFrance's A380s will be here.

Terminal's 2&3- complete mess, dirty old and dated. Hopefully delta willl rebuild them

Terminal 4- By far the nicest, spacious, modern, convenient

Terminal 5- closed but will become a very nice and modern jet blue terminal in a few years. it is currently under construction

Terminal 6- small and cramped for jetblues massive jfk operation hence the aquisition of terminal 5

Terminal 7- old and small but remodeled for BA. hopefully it will be expanded.

Terminals 8 and 9- were very old but were replaced by AA's massive new teminal. it has a spacious new arrivals hall an is state of the art. i cannot wait until it is completed.

Overall, jfk is a very nice airport now that many of the old terminals have been replaced. it used to be old and dirty. the air train is also a very nice addition to the airport. hopefully it will be expanded to run on the lirr tracks to a new rail terminal at the WTC station. although jfk has many terminals it is misleading as many of them are small. one of my favorite airports. Much nicer than lga which is small and cramped except for the us airways terminal.

I haven't had problems taking those pictures. I didn't snap any in restricted areas and those marked with a No Photography sign.

Knowing westchester and Fairfeild county very well, there is no chance anything significant can ever be added to westchester County Airport. Too many power players will shut it down. Its nestled between purchase, NY and greenwich, CT. very very rich towns. everyone keeps saying the 4th major airport will have to be Newburgh. Buts a good 45 minutes to an hour north of the nothernmost point of NYC
