Very near the towers they are preparing this obelisk by Calatrava.

Pictures by Aalto.

We madrileños obviously know it, but let's keep clear that you see in those pics is just the "squeleton" of the obelisk; it will supposely have movable parts that will shine in addition with the sun.

It is being installed on Plaza de Castilla (where the leaning towers of Puerta de Europa are placed) Yesterday the last piece of the obelisc was installed reaching the height of 92 meters. The obelisk will be covered with 504 bars made of ormolu, which will give the monument a golden appearence. Each bar will have a hidraulic mechanism that will make a soft movement wich will be transmited to the next bar. The objective is to feel that a wave is ascend along its surface.
It will be finished on september of this year.

Wapo, they started at 19,00 pm, at least the day I was there.

They are beautiful, the colours change all the time, the water goes higher and lower...so everything changes permanently. Worthy to see them.

Go to see them if you have time.

wow Madrid is really booming. Are there any new Skyscrapers planned for the future?. I like the the one which is becoming thinner to the top very much. One of my favorites of europe. Maybe freedom tower will look a little bit like it. The shape is similar.
