The last standing crane is already being taken down, so chances are it will be completely gone by then.

The closest Metro to CTBA is Begoña though, 2 stops from Plaza de Castilla taking the Line 10.
The segment of Line 1 (azure-colored) between Tribunal and Atocha stations (which includes the stops at Gran Vía, Sol, Tirso de Molina and Antón Martín) has been closed down since last Saturday until mid-September to work on the connection with the new suburban rail station at Sol-Gran Vía.

The Begoña station can be reached by taking Line 3 (yellow-colored) at Sol (200 m walk from Plaza de Santa Ana) and then transferring to Line 10 (navy-colored) at Plaza de España (2 stops northwest from Sol and 9 stops southwest from Begoña). I reckon about a 15 to 20 min metro ride plus 5 min transfer time at Plaza de España, plus a 5 to 10 min walk from Plaza de Santa Ana to Puerta del Sol.

Remember that once at Begoña metro station you should look for the Ciudad Sanitaria La Paz (c/ Arzobispo Morcillo - Paseo de la Castellana) way out and avoid the Colonia Virgen de Begoña (c/ San Modesto) way out. The latter is a shorter stretch from the platform to the ground level, but will land you relatively far from the towers (about half a kilometre) and on the other side of a heavy-traffic freeway (M-30), whereas you'll surely get wowed out when stepping out of the former, turning around and finding Torre Espacio and the rest of the gang at close range right in front of you. It's possible you might like to take some pics of the towers as viewed from the Colonia Virgen de Begoña residential area, but then you would have to look for the pedestrian overpass and find your way through nearly deserted secondary streets to finally get to the CTBA (there's no chance you might get yourself completely lost, since the four biggies are of course clearly visible from anywhere in the area, but you'll probably won't want to spend half an hour walking a mile around).

Thanks so much Javier for the great and detailed answer. Much appreciated. BTW I don't mind walking around for a half-hour to get some good pictures and appreciate these wonderful buildings. Last summer I spent about four hours at Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences just shooting photos of Calatrava's masterpieces, and then went into the aquarium for about another four hours just so I could wait until sunset to get some more shots at night!

Some cladding parts are still missing at the towers.

I hope so... it looked ugly like hell. Why don't they just keep the four towers? Adding that building would destroy the view of the towers.

What's the name of those towers in the background that aren't perpendicular? I knew there stood REALIA on it at the top, but I still don't know the name of it.

I took a lot of pictures of them when I was in Madrid.
