they'll save lots of energy because of that. It's working a bit like a thermos bottle. Also the space between the facades will be partly public space which is pretty cool and definitely no waste.

The double cladding is to create indoor green space for each section. Not a waste of space in one of the smog capitals of the world.

Tbh, Shanghai isn't as bad. You can get a whole week of nice clear days before a couple of days of smog. Its usually how it happens.
From the PMI index, anything below 100 is still clear skies. 100-150 starts to become hazy with over 150 is where its smog.

I guess rlw777 has never stayed in Shanghai for a longer period.
Yes, there are bad days (nowadays more than some years ago). But most of the time it isn't that bad.
Calling Shanghai a smog capital of the world is just ludicrous. This title belongs to Beijing, New Delhi, Xi'an, Dhaka etc.

That one has to be hands down the best picture of the Shanghai Tower so far.

Shanghai's air quality has been very good these past few weeks. It's more problematic in the winter months when the winds blow from inland.

And even with all that density, the buildings still get shorter as you get closer to the river.

Unfortunately Shanghai has lost it's momentum in skyscraper construction. So we are not going to see anything like in the photos above any time soon.

Let's see what the future brings. Maybe Shanghai will see a 'second spring' like NYC is having at the moment

I've said it before (and I hope I'm wrong) but I think the double cladding will negatively affect the visibility from inside the building. During the day the support structures will impede the view, and at night the reflections from the lights will make it almost impossible to see out the windows... like an infinity mirror.

this is the GREAT problem, the people's scepticism.

I have 2 questions-

You can hear birds at the sunrise?
You can see some fish in the river?
