Many buildings look pretty underwhelming in photos compared to real life, but that last picture makes it look absolutely huge! I keep thinking it's a camera trick to make it look taller, but that's how tall it really is!

I don't think Shanghai needs to 'create' a new CBD. The business landscape there is mature enough that skyscrapers don't need to be built via masterplans but organically like NYC, London or HK. After this wave is done, I think there will be a slow down in construction.

Well, the Hudson Yards in NYC are a masterplanned development. And the Europaviertel in Frankfurt. Both these cities have established skylines for a long time, and still they are doing it.
Masterplanning has nothing to do with 'maturity' of a city. Reasons to build a masterplanned CBD could be: hudge demand, (re)developing empty or occupied space, expanding the city...

What seems likely in the case of Shanghai is the demolition of the barracks in the east of the 3 supertalls and a large-scale expansion of the Lujiazui CBD, But I heard the owners of the barracks don't want to sell their land. Maybe in some years, things will change.

High demand is certainly the largest factor of all. However, master-planning, from my own assertion based on thorough studies, seems to also have a major factor with real estate speculation. A good example would be large housing developments built in America's suburbia that end up with empty lots and vacant homes for years or the ghost cities of China.

I should hope so, considering how little cladding is left to be put up.

From the ground level people can never see how much taller this one is compared to the other two!

[QUOTE=Oasis-Bangkok;116809517]

Does this picture look weird to anyone else? There's some sort of odd angle after the third set of black lines from the bottom of the image.

All they need to do is just extend Lujiazui to the east.

Looks like the English name sign is going to be changed to a Chinese one.
