The permanent sign now shows 震旦. However the nighttime LED display also shows Aurora.

Replaced the entire sign with LED panel, at least, that is my understanding.

Something I have noticed from the 2nd picture is the mesh/frame structure near the bottom of the crown (near the weibo.com signature), I assume it will be the support frame of some sorts of panels to make the glass crown less transparent.

I don't see one yet, but I wonder if they will add a lightning rod or two at the top of the crown?

Nominal is the measure that makes sense if you're comparing actual economic activity, not the value of that activity.

Two different things.
Yes, but then you travel China and assess what you think the local GDP appears to be, and realise that PPP is a very good measure when comparing economies that have different cost structures.

I would estimate that China's GDP appears - that is appears - to be 15-20,000 USD nominal based upon the traffic, roads, trains, buildings, cities and autos. If you look at the biggest cities, it is far higher still.China sells more private autos per year than the USA, a clear suggestion that the Chinese economy may be the larger of the two.

The country appears more prosperous that a strict reading of nominal GDP would reveal, hence PPP.

Then you drive across North America several times and look around and realise that the USA appears poorer than a strict reading of nominal GDP would reveal. Most people in the USA earn 22k, to 30k USD per year nominally. USA is more like Greece or Croatia once you remove the top 20 percent who are extremely well off. In the USA many people have huge autos, but they are all on credit. Many have houses, also on credit. Many in the USA are far into debt - and debt is not wealth.

I am certain that you will disagree and you will cite some figures from a webpage to counter what I posted. I have lived in both countries for extended periods and traveled both nations broadly.

It is a fair, and honest, statement to say that China and the USA have economies that are currently equal in size. Over the next 10 years China's economy will match the USA's by any measure you wish to use, and then exceed it.

This is happening now, and the only issue is if one is conservative with the figures and thinks it will happen later, or if one is liberal and thinks that it happened a few months ago.

It is fair to dispute whether using PPP (a measure that standardizes costs - and by that measure, [arguably] comparing quality of life - between countries) to measure actual output across countries is effective.

It's just conceptually troubling; that's not the aim of a PPP measure. You can make the case, and I guess it's compelling, but that doesn't make it all that accurate (the fact that India surpasses Japan on this measure should point to this conclusion, I think).
