I know what you mean but just to put this all into perspective :
1) Don't forget the scale of these buildings. In a picture you can't really appreciate how massive they really are.
2)This is all part of a planned CBD. Unlike more organic city centers, the idea behind this district was to make it feel more open to some degree. Maybe to appreciate each building individually ? I don't really know but if you consider New York for example, nobody who came up with the original plan ever envisioned walls of buildings 50 floors tall.

Its funny, that the building with the balls, I don't know it's name, always makes me think of the Atomium in some way though.

You need to look at what this area looked like just 20 years ago, than imagine what it might be like 20 years from now!

Oh, and the elevator to the observation deck almost always has a long queue, but not so for the hotel.
The hotel and bar are both free and they don't kick you out or tell you to buy a drink if you just stand on the window. One time in jin mao it was breakfast time and the girl walking specifically asked us if we are just tourist enjoying the view and if so told us to go up a few stories to not disturb the guests and no drink in the bar or entrance fee is needed.

HATE the multi-coloured lights. They make the building look tacky and cheap.
