Every critic uses something as a benchmark. It's called subjectiveness. Every human being has it, believe it or not. We all have our own opinions, and they're all based on something. Shocking revelation, I know.

As far as I've understood about the 'too many lights adverse' opinions, which in some part I share, they assume ST is so much an architectural masterpiece (which it is, beyond any doubt) that all those lights make the architectural beauty of the building to slide in the background, that's all.
It sounds really out of place, to me, to make of these opinions a matter of localism, which also sounds like thinking that all of those who didn't spoke favourably about those lights are envious or short-minded.
It's just a matter of pure aestethics, and aestethics is not mathematic, and therefore can collect different opinions.
That's the way human things goes......

Not only opinions, but also preferences.

So we like what we like, It does not mean that if I don't like something, because is not my personal taste, I'm jealous that I don't have that particular thing, and I want that... because I don't like that.

Yes, there are a lot of things to be jealous, but never about a thing I don't like.

No reason why it "shouldn't" I guess. Same as any reason why I shouldn't observe and say so?

Living in China for more than 4 years, Shanghai has been my favorite city so far. It's walkable, has great transportation, wonderful architecture from different ages. Living in Beijing for the past two years, I'm definitely jealous of Shanghai in that respect. This all stays true right up to the moment I set foot in Lujiazui. In my opinion, the skyline is a display that's best observed from across the river and that's it.

Everyone should get the chance to see it all lit up at night as it is a unique and awe inspiring sight. To me, it just comes across as a novelty thing though. Too much jelly and too little toast i guess.

Those lights are a little over.

As the lights are made of leds (or not?), they are controllable.

It's just reduce the carnival effect.

It always amuses me to see those rusty barges and freighters sailing by the new, gleaming and technologically advanced towers of the Pudong skyline.

Just saw it myself from waitan, now that's a shame, if they at least would keep the '上-海-中-心' on the big screen. But then again why does it have that screen, so maybe they just pause until it's officially opened and then bump it up again. I mean citi and aurora are also streaming like bosses

let's not forget that the tower is still a huge construction site. once the tower is finished i'm sure the screen will display flashy things 24/7
