The Willis Towers footprint is insanely large, this tower is very tall but the width is nothing special.

It is. Somewhere i read that the shanghai tower is over 83m wide at the base, just the circular part of course. And that's alot wider than willis tower.

Willis Tower is 69m wide, so is not that far behind... And Shanghai Tower have the 2 walls.

Also, a square have more surface than a circle, for the same width.

Even without the external wall, it would have a surface close to Willis, at the base.

Both towers get narrow toward the top, But Willis is the same width a good part of it.

So all put together, in the end, Willis have a bigger surface. (not even compare it to BK, where it gets pencil thin rather quick)

Any chance for this tower to be open by next September? I'll be passing by Shanghai and chances are that I won't be back there for some time.

I just wanted to tell Dubai1000 that the width of Shanghai Tower IS something special because it's even wider than Willis Tower

If anything, this tower is almost "fat" (but I like curvy... towers. )

Agree, Shanghai Tower isn't fat. It's very wide at the base but but just the half at the top. Also the tower is over 600m tall so that 83m diameter at the base don't make it look fat.

Excuse me for further offtopic text and especially for first Post (normally i only followed this Forum since 2010 but now i had to write) According to the wiki Article "List of largest buildings in the world" in the category floor space
Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower may be the Skyscraper (Supertall) with the largest Floor Area. Wiki states it holds the 5th place in floor space of a single building. CTBUH sadly has no data, The Wiki Article states over 609.673mē, the List 580.000mē but on the List Burj Khalifa has 465.000mē when CTBUH cites 309.473mē Tower GFA and Abraj Al Bait is listed as Complex, the Tower GFA only has 310.000mē - really confusing - i mean the tower is really wide and this up to the roof, but only remarkably in one dimension, does someone know more about it?

For such Reasons it would be cool to have a 3D Diagram of all Supertalls and higher with their "Skeleton" and coloured Floors for each of the different Floor Spaces, a Skyscraperpage in 3D... I have a dream
