ASIAN COBRA TOWER.

In China snakes and dragons often mean the same. The symbol of wisdom and eternal life, this tower would embellish any Eastern city. Tourists, fascinated, would look at this immense cobra, its jaws serving a terrace would be a restaurant or a night club and its body could contain offices or apartments. Snakes and dragons are custodians of threshold, temples, treasure, esoteric knowledge and all lunar gods. If this skyscraper is built in a city this city will become eternal in its resurrections. The diamond-shaped pattern on the back of the snake is the symbol of Yang and Yin, duality and reunification of the Sun and the Moon, male and female principles, conciliation of opposites, and androgyny. Snakes change their skin, as this skyscraper can change its coloring.

Shanghai Tower to be ‘cultural landmark’
12 March 2016
Shanghai Daily

SHANGHAI Tower will be one of the city’s top cultural landmarks, boasting rich artistic elements and plenty of exhibition space, developers of the highest building in the country said yesterday as it enters its final inspection phase before it opens.

“Cultural and artistic elements can be seen from the underground to the top,” said Ge Qing, deputy general manager of the Shanghai Tower Construction and Development Co.

Under the building, a 400-meter-long passage linking it with Shanghai World Financial Center, Jin Mao Tower and Shanghai International Financial Center will provide a venue for small art exhibitions.

With an area of 2,000 square meters, a 10-meter-high multifunctional room on the second floor is expected to host concerts and film festivals.

The 37th floor is the home of the Shanghai Guanfu Museum, which will display ancient Chinese ceramics, goldware and Buddhist statues, including some shipped to Western countries hundreds of years ago.

On the 118th and 119th floors, visitors will be treated to sweeping views of the city, and the 126th floor will serve as a venue for modern art exhibitions and performances.

China’s tallest skyscraper Shanghai Tower has express elevator that shoots up to 119th floor in 55 sec
(People's Daily Online) 09:45, March 19, 2016

The construction of China’s tallest skyscraper Shanghai Tower has been completed recently and is going to open soon, local media reported. The 632-meter-tall tower located in Pudong district in Shanghai has 126 floors. The building boasts 400,000 square meters of floor space and will comprise mostly of fancy office space with the odd luxury retail areas and hotel rooms.
It is the second-tallest building in the world, only behind Dubai's Burj Khalifa, which stands at 829.8 meter.
The Shanghai Tower is equipped with a lightning fast elevator that can reach a max speed of 18 meters per second. Visitors taking the elevator can reach the 119th floor sightseeing platform in just 55 seconds.

Did anyone go to the observatory already?
According to the article it should be possible to go up? Or is this false?

Quote:
Although the world's second tallest tower is still under construction, with no fixed date for opening, its elevator has opened.

It is already whisking visitors to the viewing platform on the 119th floor in just 55 seconds.

Mitsubishi to install world’s fastest elevator in Shanghai Tower.

Mitsubishi Electric will install the world’s fastest elevator to the 632-metre Shanghai Tower in July, making the already swift ride to the top of China’s tallest building even faster.

The elevator will travel at a speed of 1,230 metres per minute, or 20.5 metres per second, taking passengers from the second-level basement to the 119th floor in just 53 seconds, Mitsubishi Electric said on Tuesday.

This will be faster than the previous speed record holder built by Hitachi, which travels at 20 metres per second and will be delivered to the 530-metre CTF Financial Centre in Guangzhou, southern China, later this year.

Mitsubishi said the record-breaking speed was thanks to new equipment it has developed, including a control panel that can maximise the traction machine's performance, as well as improvements of safety devices.

The new technology will be installed in one of Shanghai Tower’s three high-speed elevators, which were provided by Mitsubishi, just like all of the building’s 106 lifts.

The current high-speed elevators in the skyscraper are no slouches either; capable of travelling 1,080 metres per minute (18m/s), the shuttle elevators were the fastest in the world when installed in 2014.

The new record-breaking technology gives Mitsubishi bragging rights over rivals, especially other Japanese lift makers such as Hitachi and Toshiba, which all seek to tap into China’s continuing demand for elevators.

China accounts for more than two-thirds of all new lifts installed in the world each year, driving competition in the sector.

In related news, US lift maker Otis said on Tuesday it will build the world tallest elevator test tower (270m) in Shanghai, as part of the company’s new global R&D centre.
