I'm not an engineer, but it looks like they're digging bore holes (for determining the geological features underfoot). Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Absolutely agree with you.

They know what geological features are in Pudong very well. Its same for construction of all other buildings. They are building a slury wall around the hole. I think they are about half way done now. See my explanation in previous post on this thread.

Ok, Jin Mao tower, SWFC and Shanghai Tower are all world class landmarks and can dominate a skyline by theselves, but why are they crowded all three together with just a road seperating them? When you view them from Puxi district across the river, wth Pearl tower in the frame, they will cover each other....Not that it matters much anyway, but I would like to see a rendering from such an angle.

And I really want it to looks rather like that:

...than like couple of separated towers like in dubai. America for sure is no longer the wordls capital of skyscrapers but way how buildings are facing each other in nyc or chicago is just perfect. Actually i even think that in pudong these three are even too far from each other. Too much parking space, to wide streets between them..

They form a triangle, with a distance bigger that the towers width, so at any position ony 2 towers can overlap.

Photo edit by me:

Not the best quality, but you can have an idea...

at right angles, you will see all towers separate...

View from Lujiazui Park:

Distance is enough for Shanghai Tower.
