exactly, i think the pearl is the best of its kind

this render makes part of me (the part that loves supertalls) feel optimistic for toronto, perhaps soon enough someone could come up with a project to dwarf its icon (la tour CN), much like how shanghai tower dwarfs the pearl~

A skyscraper like Shanghai Tower can not be built in the United States because there is a height limit of 2,000 feet; currently. Congress passed the law in the 1960s so tall structures don’t interfere with air traffic. The tallest tower on proposal in the US is the Chicago Spire, at the 2,000 feet mark. They dug the hole for it, but right now it’s on hold because of the economy; but will probably be completed eventually. The Shanghai Tower is only slightly taller than the Chicago Spire, but again, the Chicago Spire can not be any taller than it is. Building over 2,000 feet may sound great, but we’ll see just how safe these supertall towers are before we build one our self. It's all great until a plane takes the top off.

Chicago Spire

Oh Cmon, thats just excuse. Are you really belive that if they really would want to build something taller than that they would have any problem with restrictions? I think not. The fact is that they even have problem contructing wtc1 witch is only 417 (to the roof). It simply to expensive in high developed country like us where you have no chip workers at all.

No, I was referring to Pingan, the 200m+ building under construction on the right of the Pearl River Tower.

Umm, ever heard of flight restrictions? There's a reason why airplanes don't fly at low altitudes over city centers, that's because it's already banned by the FAA! It's just an outdated rule made decades ago, when no one thought that we would ever be building this tall nowadays
