To use Taipei 101 building is a bad example. That building is ugly. I am sure there are others better example you can use.

SWFC was put on hold due to the 1997-1998 crisis. This time it's crisis too but it seems that it's one of the projects that will go ahead no matter what. So I think we can be sure it will go ahead straight away without interruptions.

there are not much visual difference in terms of construction progress because they are building the slurry wall now around the circle. I think the foundation will look almost the same as SWFC.

Chinas ancient architecture is great, but it does not fit together with modern buildings like skyscrapers. They are surely going to find their own way in modern architecture, and in my humble opinion they have already outdone Japan and US the with their designs. Just look at Shanghai or Hongkong.

Is Shanghai Tower going to look like on the first post of this thread? If so, it's going to look great! But one post later there's another render which looks less good. 3 great towers, shame I'll never go to Shanghai (not for the skyscrapers), if I would go to China to see skyscrapers my destination would be Hong Kong. But Shanghai is in top 3 together with HK and Ghuangzhou.

That building is not impress me at all. Perhap, if it is round instead of square maybe it looks better. Anyway, Shanghai tower is absolutely astonishing.
Anyway maybe there is a reason they build three skyscrapers next to each others. It might make sense. Since the Pudong soil is soft, it's better to have support from the neighbor giants. So, it won't lean like pizza.

I agree

I like the idea of having 3 giant scrapers next to each other.
It makes Shanghai kinda like a western city. with the POT standing in the foreground with 3 giant towers in the back ground looks stunning.

Since guys are tlaking about taipei 101 .Trust me it is probably the single worst supertall on earth .Seriously can't think of anything so horrible and also .Its entire design of stability was so crude and non innovative .Most modern day buildings are far more efficient in terms of energy and steel used .

The Jin Mao tower is the perfect example of a marriage between western contemporary and ancient chinese architecture. Taipei 101 is a mess.

With the amount of energy that China needs to sustain itself, it is should be looked into. If only for the cost-savings that it provides in the long run, let alone the environmental concerns.

China seems to be trying to make at least some of their new towers LEED certified, and I aplaud them for it. If china is going to continue to urbanize at the rate it is now, they need to conserve as many resources as possible.

Very true... Shanghai might be in the same situation as HK, which needs a nuclear power plant just for its own electric supply... It is quite a challenge for China to develop a sustainable way of building huge metropolis.

Sustainability is the issue. They'll need to light, condition and windowclean these buildings.

And for now, it is the only way until we can build fusion reactors. Of course wind, water and solar energy are better but you need large spaces of free land. However things got a bit more promising know that it's possible to combine windows and transparant energy cells. Hong Kong has loads of large glass buildings that could generate a lot of energy with this new technique.

The Shanghai tower has an enormous facade of glass around it, it would be perfect if they could use the transparant solarcells for it.
