Thx for the info. That's some serious depth and amount of piles.

I highly recommend that you do visit Shanghai some day, Altin. Fantastic shopping, great food and wonderful sights! Awesome city! A good time to visit would be during F1 actually.

Oh, and there are a great many cute girls there too, literally millions more than you will ever find on this forum. With the vast majority of them being Chinese.

if i did understand correctly, each pile can stand weights up to 2800tons, they do not actually weigh 2800tons them selves

Yeah, we would need to rely on people living in those white appartments for the best updates

Banks sign on to secure future of tallest tower

By Zhang Fengming | 2009-7-19 | NEWSPAPER EDITION

Workers check progress on the construction site of Shanghai Tower in Pudong where pile foundation work on the 632-meter skyscraper ended yesterday. The future of the project was cemented yesterday when the tower's development company secured finance from a syndicate of banks worth 10 billion yuan (US$1.46 billion).

Hi Fury. Really too bad indeed that we don't have a Burj Holland here back in the Netherlands to take pictures of.. I didn't know that even for BD its on skin friction, but I did hear that concrete construction of BD is 15 cm from the lead (don't know if that's the right translation..). Did I tell you that before? However, that's not because of the piles.

I'm glad in Shanghai they're finished with it, can you arrange a set of drawings for this one Fury? Would be great!

I know ... one of them was mine for years

BTW, if they are really done with the piling, that would be fantastic but often press articles are confusing and sometimes wrong, mixing up the site perimeter wall with the piles themself.

Let see and hope they are right this time.

chinese way of life

i think that the next thing that we should expect from the Chinese is to bring to the world a new way of life society and politically in order to really dominate the world to give to other country on alternative to the western style cause i live in Canada and i really don't think that china have to embrace the western waye of life instead you guy most be driving by your culture who is really powerful to shape your society in your way of life and you should always know that democracy is an evolution not a revolution is better for you to take time to bring a real democracies balance to your country then to destabilize your country by listen to western people who want you to be like them remember you guy are the older civilization that mean you know better then that

You're absolutely right, of course, about these press articles and the such, it always pays to keep an open mind on these matters. I really hope piling has been completed here and the main construction gets going soon. It would be great if we could get official confirmation on this from someone on the ground there... that would be extremely helpful actually.

Outside of Burj Dubai, this is my favourite tower/project right now. One of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen ... simply breathtaking. It's going to be so dominant in the Shanghai skyline.

mckendy, I'm absolutely against your naive view of politics economy: china is the best example of scientific predictive power of marx-engels-lenin materialistic doctrine; new imperialistic powers arise, old imperialistic powers decline; in the middle, devastating crisis and wars. let's wait for the unavoidable next global collapse of profit rate: when that time'll arrive, and no more expansion territories remain to multiply the capital, they'll start to really fight one against the other. china, russia, japan are well on course to replenish their arsenals. no way for china to discover an alternative to capitalistic model; only a world proletarian leninistic revolution will succeed.
