Updates!!!!

Here are some pictures taken by me on August 13, 2009 at around 3pm Shanghai Time.

Here is the site from street level, I took this when they opened the gate.

Whole site taken from the 56th floor of the Jin Mao tower.

Seems they are outlining the circle.

Steel in the SE corner of the site

Great update Severiano! Looks like piling and the slurrywall is almost done. They probably have to wait until the slurrywall is fininished before the start digging, otherwise the groundwater will be in the way when they dig deeper.

Keep posting updates like this. It is very must apreciated.

Jin Mao looks so good in the first pic. It may not be the tallest or the most well known, but i think it definitely deserves a top 5 spot for the best designed supertall of all time

were there other towers that temporarily poured concrete over foundation just for the ground breaking ceremony?

I reckon this was waste of concrete, they could've just laid carpet over it.

I'm not sure if I like the design. Turning skyscrapers are kind of getting old, imo. Going to be an awesome project to watch, though. Shanghai certainly has an impressive skyline.

I will have to admit, I am not toooo crazy about the design. However the height is awesome and so are the interior renderings.

well what's so different, and in my opinion so attractive about this particular design, is that it's only the inside mech floors have a twisting aspect to them
the outside cladding, however, is a sleeve that goes over it to convey the general shape of it all.
i guess, it's kinda like a lumpy burrito. you know the insides are there, but you can't exactly tell the ingredients until you get up close and eat it.

and thank you so much for those awesome updates, severiano.
that's an amazing view you have there. do you go up jin mao very often?

just a question here, how are they possibly going to dig the hole with hundreds of piles stuck in there?

Maybe the same way how they did it with pentominium. They did drill the holes for piles, but fill with concrete and reinforcement only bottom part, so after that they were abble to dig deeper.

I used to work in the Jin Mao tower on the 3rd floor, but i changed jobs, so I don't work there anymore. But I can go to the 54-56th floor of the tower for free anytime. I don't start work until Aug. 29 so I can go anytime the weather is nice and I feel like going there. Its a bit far from my house tho. So after I start my new job I will probably go there on the weekends only.

My new job is in Xintiandi, close to my house. Pudong is not the cool place in Shanghai, Puxi is much better especially Huangpu, Luwan, Jingan, and Xuhui4 districts. All Pudong has is skyscrapers. And outside of Lujiazui, (where the skyscrapers are) Pudong is kind of ghetto. So if you live in Shanghai, you should live in Puxi, its more urban and happening. Pudong is developed by the gong fei (共匪)so its not so good.
