Shanghai Tower will only start rising when all 5 underground levels are finished. Looks like they are still digging for the 4th level currently.

That's hardly deep at all considering how tall of a tower their building. What is going to keep the building from tipping over if a strong wind or something hits it?

Hi all.

I think your updates are hella good Sev.

No really - you are the only updater giving us full site shots - not that I'm complaining about the half site shots we get fairly regularly.

It's looking like the hole is close to as deep as it's going to go by the looks of all the pile tops showing.
Kix - I'm not sure if the retaining rings correspond to the underground levels of the structure ?
OE - 955 piles - 86 meters deep are going to keep this thing stable.

Well, thats what one of the leading constructor have said on the chinese forums. Also he told us that the hole will be done before the chinese new year and if i recall correctly, this tower will not start rising until next year.

That's an engineering marvel man. I didn't know it was posible to go 632m high with just a 5 story fondation. The pilars must help but how they jab pilars 86m into solid ground, is that what they call shoring in the construction world?

What are the concrete structures I highlighted for? I couldn't make any sense of them.

I think they are digging some underground car parks there.

Just compare the hole to the bus on the street... it's freakin huuuge! They could fit a small-sized town in it.
