The upper part of Shanghai Tower is still wide and solid. In this sense, it IS taller than Burj Khalifa. Or, at least it is more HONEST than the latter

I don't know what this tower will dwarf, but it is not everything and certainly not the Burj.

I don't think anything would be for the next 10-15 years. However I love the design of this tower!

There is something called measuring height. In Burj dubai you measure the spire as well. And on the steel section there are some habitable floors as well.

You cant call a 632m building taller than 828m one based on where the roof ends.

Very deep hole. I don't recall a deep hole during construction of Burj Khalifa?

This building is actually more than 632m tall if you consider the floors below ground level.

...Then so is Burj Dubai!

The underground levels don't count for the height since they are... underground. lol

Height counts from pavement or from Ground floor depending on the building and location.

Mr Guest89, I know your Burj Khalifa is taller but all I wanted to point out is that Shanghai Tower has very deep hole with multi basement levels, which I don't recall seeing during early stages of Burj Khalifa construction.

If you ignore 180m+ spire on BK, then height will be 644m which is similar to ST.

So looks like it the concrete rings do represent the underground floors? There are four rings in total making it 5 underground levels, just like what is said in the environment report or something.

Btw, thanks for the pics wap-190!!

Your point is extremely false. If you ignore the pinnacle of Taipei 101 it wouldn't be 509 metres either. The steel section of the Burj Dubai is part of the building. The antenna looking feature that comes out of that is the spire. You can't remove 1/3 of the building and claim they are the same height. Who cares how many underground levels this building has? No relation to the height what so ever.

And the point is you can't ignore that part of the building. Even IF you do it is still taller.

Before making such claims and imagining things, please do some research, because it really sounds like you don't know anything about taking measurements.

He only said IF the spire did not count, we all know that Burj Khalifa is taller than Shanghai Tower, and indeed BK is an elegant structure. There is no point to post such a huge article just to prove him wrong, the way you are overreacting to these simple comments such as:

just makes your self look bad. The everything here he meant should be everything in Pudong, not the whole world.

I am trying to explain how you measure structures, thats all.

Back on topic then:

Great building. Can't wait until they complete this. I was planning to go to Shanghai a few months ago, but now making plans for later this year.

Hi all.

Both the BK and this are magnificent projects. Both - like most buildings - have some uninhabitable area at the top. The height to roof is no longer an officially recognized way to measure anymore. Although the BK doesn't have an easily recognized roof there are 4 tiers named roof 1 to 4 respectively and the top of tier 22 named spire 1 / roof 4 is 720.1 meters as per the plans measure. Just some food for thought.

This project is one I am saving pics and info of. It is great to be able to watch it from the start of construction.

Well, since for some people the question seems to be one of masculine self-confidence, I'd say a (giant) woman would be more easily pleased with the ST than with the BK
I hope no one in Dubai reads this or they'll make it a point to build the thickest and most "ergonomic" tower in the world...

Hilarious, maybe you are right, unless that woman has size preference.

I think we are going off topic. This is Shanghai Tower discussion and not Burj Dubai discussion. We know which one is taller, so now lets get to the construction of this particular tower.

I'd rather say unless she likes being f*** with a very long needle... anyway you're right, we better turn back to topic.

I hope a new world tallest will follow that building. Shanghai doesn`t want to be beat by Shenzhen, i think
