@Fury I honestly doubt your signature. As i have said previously Burj Dubai does have a 160 mt spire making a 660 mt building look 820 mt . Anyway So i would really put ST up at the debate of hte greatest supertall of our age and definitely reject the idea of undebated acceptance of burj dubai as the greatest supertall of our age.

The newest shot from the 21st definately shows rebar being layed out. The deeper area in the center has had rebar layed out for a while now.
Fantastic progress on this project.

Hi Fury,

I see, thanks for that.

I agree, the progress made here to date has been fantastic! Just imagine in another few years looking back at these particular shots of that hole, seeing a gleaming, beautiful Shanghai Tower soaring over Shanghai's skyline. Can't wait!

The pour has started .Those small punctures in the big hole are basically steel frames being filled with concrete.

This is by far my favorite skyscraper. Is this the second tallest skyscraper after Burj Dubai? (Tokyo Sky Tree is not a skyscraper)

Up to now we still don't know the height of Pingan, the offical height of 588m, no spire or the wide spread 646m, or even 1mm, the height of it's blueprint according to a Guangzhou professor, LOL, joking.

but what almost is certain is shanghai tower won't be the tallest building in China by 2015 . There are 3 projects taller than this. One of them already has gone into a digging phase. The other two especially the Wuhan tower has a very very high chance of getting done and also the Zhuhai 680 could be the next big deal considering the amount of money that was recently pushed into it for an exchange expressway. So even in the worst possible case Where Shenzhen Pingan is just 588 mt and not 646 mt(which would be quite a disappointment) still then you have two more projects popping up with high chance of getting realized. Also there is some discussion to give Beijing its real status by building on hypertall in the next extension of CBD. The party boss has clearly stated he won't sign any deal if the planned building is less than 400 mts.

What a beautiful building! I'm so thrilled that they chose that as their final design. I liked the others, but this one is great.

Hi Snap.

I beg to differ as the BK is the first freestanding structure to overtake the highest guyed mast in many decades. All buildings have unused space at the top including this one as Rise pointed out. Try not to think of the BK as just a building, rather the tallest manmade structure in history. It is the one that has opened the floodgates for many extremely tall structures to come.
This is not the place to debate such matters - we will have to agree to disagree.
Sorry for the OT all.

There will be a pile of rebar tied in before the big raft pour. I would guess that pour will be in some weeks yet - maybe only 2 at the rate things are progressing.

I prefer to remember Shanghai Tower, Jin Mao and SWFC and Petronas and 2IFC as towers that look nice and elegant, not because they made it to the top of the height list. Every time i see these towers, and the render of ST, i think, magnificent, wonderful and modern, not, wow its the tallest in the world, if you get what i mean

Hi all.

I agree Ewan. I just happen to think the BK is a fantastic design as are many projects around the world including this one. I watch a dozen or so that I save pics and info from and the Shanghai Tower is one of them.

Well, the US is buildings the freedom tower, which is more than 500mtrs, yes it may not be 600m plus but its still impressive in height. London, may not be building lots of tall towers, but its definitely building many towers atm and one from the cluster they are building, there will be London's tallest i think.

Anyway, back to the real topic, hopefully the ST tower can rise fast.
