relax, they will build it, it is just a matter of time.

I am not against the gov't idea of shifting their focus from one city to another, they don't want shanghai = china. Remember ten years ago, shenzhen was their focus on building the nation, everything was for shenzhen, now, I think they are somewhat shifted towards other places, such as chongqing and shenyang.

this was proposed under the previous mayor of shanghai who was arrested. So obviously a new mayor is needed who does not seem to do any good on shanghai center.

Rumors heard that there will be a new mayor soon again

three 400+m together? I think I prefer a 600+m with a couple of 300+ buildings.

is it really economically viable to build it today tho? is there such a demand for office space in pudong right now? dont get me wrong, i'd love to see another supertall being built there, i can't help but being realistic about the necessity of this project.

Yeah and that land looks too big to "waste" on one building.

I think people tend to over estimate the demand required for a super tall. If they were making a few acres of lowrise commercial, no one would be saying "OMFG They'll never fill it LOL" but it would be more office space than in a supertall. These cities that are rapidly growing don't want to blow all of their land on 3 storey buildings.

The vacancy rate has dropped, I guess it will recover a little since they are finishing quite many skyscrapers now, but the demand is very strong anyway.

Never saw that chart, would be nice to see. Most studies like that underestimate Chinese cities a lot because they use nominal figures to measure city GDP, and as you know in China that's too unreal because of rmb issues, etc.
