Why would it need to be positioned in the center?

Hi kix.
I would think there will be more than one tower crane - perhaps 4 to start with and at least 2 to rise with the tower after it gets above ground.

Good to see tower cranes. Lends to the notion that there won't be a big delay.

Cranes can mount outside the building, so positioning can be done a number of ways, best to wait and see how many cranes are used and where they are mounted. Not sure anyone knows for sure where they'll be right now.

The big yellow crane is there to put up the tower cranes. Based on pictures of the pour there will be 2 tower cranes inside the building.

I dont think so. Tower cranes should be on core. What you drew shows a distant of almost 50m between two cranes. Core cannot be that large.

Hi all.

uakoops has it right fox.
I guess I should have looked at the pics too since I have them all.

Here is one from 10 03 26 - just before the pour that shows the 2 bases for the cranes clearly.

Gonna be good to watch the next phase in this project progress.

We do need more Shanghai photogs to visit the site though so we can have more updates..

If you see the basement in the render, it becomes clear that this first crane will not be in the building but really next to it. So this is not one of the two cranes Fury mentioned that will rise with the tower.

My guess is that there will indeed be 4 cranes (two inside, two outside the building) or maybe even 6 (why not ), from which 4 outside the building to construct the basement and the podium. If I was in charge, I would go for 6 to remain the fast construction and keep all the skyscraperfanatics happy!!!

i will be very surprised if this tower is built with only two cranes. I would have estimated 4 atleast. Bishopsgate is getting 5 and it's site is 10x smaller than this.

They are too apart from each other. If this is the case, core will be as large as building itself which is impossible. We will see :p

The cranes appear to be at the outer edges of the core. The building itself extends to the supercolumns, the bases of which are visible at the outer edges of the picture you quoted.

Here is a quick diagram. The building is acually a circle, it is slightly distorted because the picture was taken at an angle.

the yellow circle is actually the inner facade, the outer facade is even bigger.
