The article doens't confirm anything, it just says according to SOM's plan the building will be 118 floors and 580m tall.

...^and that the golf course currently occupying the plot ends its lease at the end of year and will not be renewed again...I wonder how much that will factor in to expediting this project along next year.

2007, oct, 26

Z3-2 is currently a driving range, there a YEARLY contract between the driving range and the Lujiazui Finance&Development Co,.

The contract will end in the end of 2007, and Lujiazui Finance&Development Co,. is planning not to lease the land.

The officials said the Z3-2 will be a multi-purpose building, including office, hotel, restaurents etc. Altough we have seen many renders on 'shanghai center', but the official design and the height HAVE NOT BEEN CHOSEN.

SOM is one of the company going for the design of the Shanghai Center. The building designed by SOM is 580m in height with 118 floors.

Experts recomend "above 600m".

http://house.people.com.cn/GB/98381/6436751.html

This looks awful! A horrifying urban concept! Try to clean up the streets, don't just try to move people off of them!

I really like the concept. If they can pull it off right, it could really help out all the pedestrians in such an urban environment. Wouldn't it be nice to leave your office and walk a few blocks to a nice restaurant for lunch without having to cross the street?

SOM did it again!!! Its actually cool but it needs gradual cleaning lke 4 - 5x a day if approved. By the way, does it resemble a Chinese word by any mean?

If it's the start of a trend, yeah, it can make it a LOT worse and unfriendly. Can you imagine trying to open a store near one of those freakish things? It would be nearly impossible to bring in any pedestrians off the streets because they'd be trapped inside a tube!
