This section of the core must be at 10 or 11 meters above street level now. Nice shot !

The hole is 31.3 meters deep, with a 6 meters thick slab, so more than 12 meters for one section.

Same as in Burj Khalifa's case me think.

What a gigantic steel core!

This was on the 8th of September, taken from the 34th floor of Citibank Tower. Looks like the core has grown quite a bit since then!

Since it is now above the ground level, we will get more updates from different angles. It is great to see the work of the basement out the hole begins.

Thanks for the unique update! This is a great place to take update pictures of ST, probably only second to the postion in Jinmao. I hope more pictures from this angle could be taken.

Hi Altin.
Looks completely different to me.
The excavation for the BK was the size of the lower levels for the tower and podium, dug before any piling or construction was done - as you know.
Here they did the piling before any excavation and only made a hole a little bigger than the tower. Now they are near to pouring the ground level of said excavation with little work done outside the hole to the outer areas of the lower levels the siteplan seems to show.

I see in the latest site aerial shot they are forming up to pour the ground level at the top right. The site plan seems to suggest this is where the outer edge of the lower levels will be (all the way around). The small section drawing shows all 5 lower levels will be this size. So I take it they will do a top down proceedure for all the outer areas of the lower levels as the tower rises. This would save time as both could be done concurrently. Pouring the ground level would be the first pour in a top down construction of the 'outer' lower levels.

If this is the case here it is an interesting contrast to my thoughts on Ping An.
- ST - 1 - excavate hole - 2 - construct tower lower levels - 3 - top down podium lower levels as tower continues to rise
- PA - 1 - top down podium lower levels excavating tower hole as they go - 2 - construct tower lower levels - 3 - continue with tower rising

A beautiful tower was proposed for Shanghai that looked a little like the Beijing TV tower. I think it was by KPF and was part of the Shipping Yard Phase 2 redevelopment. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and if so, what its status is?
