Why is this going so slow? Are they working on other parts of the plot or is there a lot to do near the foundation of the core? Hopefully the speed will pick up once the core rises to a certain level.

Soon they will reach the speed of five day a floor I think.

Looks like they're working on a lot of ground stuff at the same time, a slightly less extreme version of Ground Zero, where 1WTC was also starting very slowly because a lot of ground and underground stuff had to be done around it at the same time. It'll reach the famed Chinese construction speed once efforts can be focused entirely on the tower.

Yeah, it seems to be shorter than the main arm, and probably has a cord connecting the two at the tips.

I think the Shanghai Tower would have twice the area. That pic of Burj Khalifa (formally Dubai) is at podium level. By level 30 it looks a lot smaller - and by level 110 it's almost entirely core with just 2 wings and triangular nobs on the other one... so practically zero floor area.

If a building has setbacks, then so would the core. I'm pretty sure that level 110 is not all core. I wouldn't want to live that high anyway, though.

Back to Shanghai Tower: This building is making some serious progress!

How long did they dig the foundation for? Seems to have risen up quite quickly.

Yeah, that's what I mean.
Also the Jinmao tower won't look too small in this angle.

It's hard to believe that the Shanghai tower will be a 200 meters taller than SFWC

I'd think of it more as 200m higher than the Jin Mao Tower, as the WFC is just under 500m in height. Still, I get what you mean - the size of this thing will be absolutely staggering!

only in shanghai (this particular cluster) jin mao looks "small", overshadowed by two gigantic towers.
btw nice progress, i except at least a rate of 1 floor per week!
