I'm hoping that someone can explain some of the details about the construction of this tower. The massive steel and concrete core must be the largest I've ever seen and yet the steel that is being erected outside of that core which is apparently the first two floors appears to be much smaller in proportion for such a large structure. What I'm really getting at is whether this huge core combined with additional columns outside of the core are really going to be the primary weight bearing structures that support it as oppossed to the light colored steel beams that we've seen in the last few photos. The reason I'm asking is because they just don't seem to have the bulk that you would typically expect with a building that's extremely tall. I'm thinking that it's probably an innovative and very unusual form of highrise construction that I'm not familiar with but I'm curious about it's design and function.
By the way, thanks to those who are providing such interesting photos. This is one of the most interesting projects in the world in my opinion.

If I had to bet I'd say those are just for the podium, while the load-bearing structures for both the floors and the outer skin are already there, and these are the supercolumns and the core itself. But we don't have to bet, there are people in the forum who know exactly how things will work.

A lot of people have been saying the core is huge and I agree, but is it actually the biggest core ever? Just curious

Hi Cul.

The top of the steel columns are just above the floor of level 13.

Hi Montana.

We can see in Moris' shots the grey beams are placed right up to the core, around the supercolumns, and out past the supercolumns. They will therefore be the floor of both the main structure as well as the podium. This trend will continue untill level 5 - the height of the podium. The beams only support the floor of the level for which they're placed - hence they are sized accordingly.

It appears most or all of the podium columns are in place for the first 2 levels. The podium extends around approx. half the main structure facing the Jin Mao.

Hi all.

Hi Nord.

Perhaps ... - I chose that render as it best illustrates that the podium extends only half way around the main structure.

I do like that design better - hopefully that is the final version.
