Not sure what you wanna say with that reply, like I never have seen modern buildings in a modern city... I like copper roofs on modern buildings. I don't think that's really hard to understand, it has to do with taste also. No face palm needed.

some examples:

I don't see why it could not fit the cladding for this lobby

eventually the color will change to this:

Yeah, a pukingly rusty image all over the entrance of your city's flagship building ... exactly the kind of image you'd want to portray

Dream on if you think something like that would ever be considered.

And aluminium is cheapper, stronger, lighter, less conductive, easier to handle and work on, does not rust and can be treated to almost any colour you like.

they will indeed chose something else.
But I think would'nt be "ugly" if they did it in copper. It has something. But I know Altin D lives in Dubai, he is already used to the bling his eyes get blinded with everyday.

Such oxidating would mean it's cheap an very very ugly and it's only nice when it's bling...we get it.

You apparently lack the depth to understand that the only reason you might use copper over there is because the rust will match the old look of your buildings plus the rusted old statues/monuments and churches roofs. Also the sky over your part of the world is gray and gloomy for the majority of the year.

None of the above conditions applies to Asian cities building skyscrapers ... but don't worry, one day you'll travel the world and will start to understand why things are how they are (meaning different from back home) and how they came to be.

yes mister AltinD , I'll shut my ignorant childish face...
But what you said doesn't make a copper cladding ugly, it makes it not fitting in the surroundings yes...

I never mentioned the word 'ugly', or hinted at it.

Is not simply the visual part of it (looking beatyfull or ugly) but the idea that rust equals old, decay, abandon ... if you get the difference.

Copper does NOT rust. And Shangai is not Dubai, I think you'll find they have a lot more rain to keep out over there.

Copper DOES oxidize - that's why it turns green over time. For example, the Statue of Liberty is made of copper, but it is green because the copper has oxidized over time.

You could put an antioxidizing coating on the copper to prevent this from happening, but it'd be easier (and cheaper) to use aluminum that has been anodized to the desired colour.

Read the thread

The only problem here would be it's tendency to form verdigris meaning it would turn blue green pretty quickly.

The point being that when copper oxydises the patina formed does not flake away and prevents further oxydation.
Unlike iron which does rust and then flakes away exposing new metal to the air. This is one reason why copper is a very good roofing material, also many people find the oxydised colour formed far from unattractive.

@kix111 do you really think I'm a parson?.........dhead.
