Shanghai Tower will certainly block sunlight to its neighbors in the north. For instance, on a sunny day, its closest neighbor, Jin Mao, won’t get much direct sunlight in the middle part of the day. Fortunately, most of the residential buildings are located either to the south or west of Shanghai Tower, so they won’t be affected in the same way as mentioned above.

I live a few blocks away from the Shanghai tower and I can see it from my apartment (when it's not extremely polluted outside, so almost never)

It's already looking pretty good. The pictures here don't do it justice. It's massive already.
