7 years construction time tells us whats going on here----they`ll go very very very tall.

7 years is about the same time as Burj Dubai took. And in my oppinion, the Chinese usually build faster than the people in the middle east.
The 7 year period can be also caused by some unique technologies or unique type of structures used in the building, it doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna be 800m+.

And 888 meters, that is a nice number, but only on paper, In reality the tower would be alone in the skyline with no link to it's supertall neighbours. I want to see 3 supertall towers in Lujiazuj, not 1+2.

it would be good to see some more 500m towers surrounding an 800+m scraper, thats right. On the other Hand it works out quite fine with Burj Dubai standing more or less alone among many smaller towers.

and for the SC they'll need 3 years more.....probably the tower will not be over 600m but maybe it's a difficult construction method. who knows

China loves 8 so much, and especially triple 8. It is a matter of time we see an 888m project rising somewhere in this country. But this tower is very unlikely to reach such height.

right. I made a mistake. Damn
Nevertheless CS takes 5 years, as it started in the very begining of 2007 and will finish at the end of 2011. ( I know I am a Korinthenkacker.... )

as we have no "real" news, and all talk here is pure speculation, I got bored and made a photoshopping
2 times 888 meters for Shanghai.

Thats the way I like it.

Rumour posted at ss.cn (thanks kix111 for telling me).

- Final design isn't any of the ones we have seen.
- They want it to be taller than Burj Dubai.
- They said it is expected to be 820m, 188 floors
- It is supposed to look like this:

PS: I don't believe anything... I don't think it will surpass 550-650m.

well, the height wouldnt be so much of a problem, if those super-super talls wouldnt necessarily be so wide at the bottom.

From a structural engineerings point of view, a height/widht ratio of about 1:10 cannot be beaten. Usually buildings are even wider than 1:10, more like 1:8 or so.

That means, if you want to go 820 meters tall, you would have a minimum widht of about 80-90 meters at ground level. And this would completely ruin the whole townplanning concept of Pudong.
It would be massive as hell.

the drawings that you have shown indicate that they will use a "X" (or call it "+") shape to solve the problem when it comes to the floorplan. Nevertheless it would be extremely thik.

agree z0rg, i also don't believe it. 820m is too much for the 3rd supertall in pudong, 550m - 650m is ok IMO.
