Even so, I would appreciate if someone could post a few pictures comparing the construction week by week. Sometimes its difficult to see the difference.

Shanghai tower does not celebrate the communist party though it is owned by a consortium of State owned enterprises, it's purpose is commercial and not political.

If anything shanghai tower represents everything the communist party was opposed to, but than again China is no longer communist.

It is a single party authoritarian state with a market orientated economy.

? Hello? I was talking that if China builds a palace of the Soviets type building in biejing or shanghai to represent Communism would be a great icon. You obviosly do not even know what Communism is, so stop making thos ridiculous claims, the Shanghai tower represents China, and China is Communist, the economy does not matter if it is a market or government controled or somthing else.Shanghai Tower represents too Communism by being one of China's(Communist country) tallest buildings and showing how the Communist country managed to build such an amazing feat.

PeoplePower, with all due respect I think you are too much into your communism stuff. You sound like you're obsessed with it.

Cut him some slack. His location shows Pyongyang. I sent him some good internet links. Juche!

This tower will most certainly be an icon, especially for the designers and builders. The city and country too, but I'm not sure that very soon there may be many like it. It's good enough to copy!

Yep, I agree. Similar to the West and their freedom and democracy beliefs, Communism in China is merely by name. Its just a one party government that runs the country. Like the West, China deviates from this communism from time to time. can't just say China is communist anymore.

Will it be an icon? It won't be as iconic as Oriental Pearl. If you split all three supertalls and placed it in other cities or other countries, yes for sure, but in Shanghai, OPT comes first, the rest is merely part of the skyline. Thats how i see people seeing it. Is it me or is Shanghai one of the few cities where people go to the CBD just to see buildings? I can't really think of another area where people go to the area just to see it/be in it?

Anyway, back to this tower please!!!!!!!!!

No more other topics other than Shanghai Tower.

Many things wrong with you...

1. Guddafi rules Libya (or once did) as a dictator. A true communist would NEVER side with a dictator.

2. China's economy is almost as far from communism as you can get. Matter of fact, the amount of government regulation on certain products and markets is similar to the way our market is here in the United States, THE most capitalist country in the world. The major difference between the two economies is that major market items (such as oil) are regulated by the government to deal with inflation due to speculation.

With that said, this building is by no means a symbol of communism. It is being privately funded (as was the SWFC, which is owned by a Japanese company), and will be filled with primarily multinational companies, not government offices or public departments as a "communist" building would be. This building is not being created as a result of a "communist" state being successful, it is the result of success of globalization.

So please stop being an asshat and acting like you know a damn thing about communism. I can bet my life that I have read Marx's Communist Manifesto and Mao's Quotations more than twice as many times as you have.

On Topic:

It appears that they are getting ready for more steel up above the forms. I wonder why they are planning on jumping the super-columns before they bring more steel up to the core though. You think that they would atleast finish off another floor of steel on the current section of super column. It should be interesting to see what happens over the next few days.

As i see the core in the last photo posted by kix, the level floor on the core should be 23rd or 24nd? The concrete part of the core...
Can someone create a diagram of this tower (to show the progress)?

China keeps proclaiming itself as a communist country, but the cool thing is than nobody has established communism yet, it´s nearly impossible to do so. And the type of the economy matters hell´a lot, because it´s tied with the state ideology.

Based on his signature, to each his own though, I don't think he will cause anything but trouble. Mods, keep an eye out if you could.
