Fantastic video! You don't even need to understand a word of Mandarin and you can figure out almost everything the narrator is talking about. It is so visually expressive and detailed that the language barrier is almost no barrier at all.

I wish all major construction projects had detailed videos this well designed for all us skyscraper geeks.

However, I wonder if they got permission from Steven Spielberg to use the closing credits theme from the movie "Twister" 1994 (Original Music by Mark Mancina) used at the end of this video?

Probably because every word is spoken with one syllable. The guy in the video is speaking very slow and in a formal tone, making it more obvious, i think thats why :_)

So when the core reaches 36th and the floor plates reach 27th floor, they will start installing the supports for fascade.

Also it seems that they are renting out floors 1-22 and the podium before the tower finishes.

Edit* they never mentioned inner facade?

Wow, so I just watched that video, and although I don't understand a word of Chinese (Canton?), I must say it was quite informative. Just some things to point out.

-I had no idea the facade was going to be that reflective

-I assume they going to dismantle 2 cranes to make it easier to build the crown right?

-The crown looks like a bitch to construct XD

-This thing makes Jin Mao look like a baby

-What was that bit about the roads around the tower connecting at the middle of the sides of the core?

-Also, what was that bit with all the red lines surrounding the three brothers at the roofs of other skyscrapers?

Those red lines are suppose to be some lasers alignment system that would make sure Shanghai tower is built the way its supposed to be built (i.e. not tilted.. i guess..).

Wow, love the details in the video!

By the way, it is sort of sad seeing Jin Mao being eclipsed..

Very very slow, hahahaha. Not what I am used to at all, though it is nice. My dad and aunt speak a million words a minute and I can barely understand them sometimes, hahaha.

Should be externally completed much earlier. If by 'open' they mean hotel in operation, I'd say it'll look externally completed in early to mid 2014. Hotels take a long time to fit out, they're usually the last thing that delays everything else in a mixed-use building, unless the developer has a good relationship with the authorities and can get the space handed over in stages (like IFC which has Ritz-Carlton at the top). Usually the entire building needs to be completed here before any of the space is allowed to be used.

If you think Mandarin is fast, try Cantonese or Shanghainese

On topic: From the video, I believe it stated that the bottom part of the building will be in operation before the whole tower is completed.
