But it isn't black and white either. Shanghai tower would be somewhere in between.

Is a skyline ever 'finished'?

I agree about the mine is bigger than yours mentality in regards to the rest of the country, however with the exception of the Shanghai Tower and the Bund Project, there really isn't much going on in terms of supertalls for a city the size of Shanghai. It already has the status quo so there isn't really any need to 'show off', unlike other cities are doing now.

One question.

Why aren't there any bridges crossing the river around the height of the Pearl Tower.
For example if people staying in the W hotel in White Magnolia Plaza want to visit the Shanghai Tower or something else in it's vicinity, they would need to travel along distance to get there, much further than necessary

There are probably underground tunnels?

There's a road tunnel literally straight under the White Magnolia Plaza, leading to Lujiazui Ring Rd. What I'm concerned about is the absence of a metro station close to the site.

AFAIK, there will be a station on Line 12 adjacent to the White Magnolia Plaza opening around the same time that the building is finished (~2013).

Yup...I think there's about 3 or 4 more lines that will go through that area...
There's also the ferries.

Is Standard Chartered Bank arranging the financing for the tower?
