Shanghai doesn't need to beat Dubai height-wise when it's already got it beat aesthetically. Besides, some other 2nd Tier Chinese city will probably be the one that beats Dubai, since those cities seem to have crazier proposals than the 1st Tier cities.

Yeah! Especially Tianjin and Shenzhen!

I think Shanghai these days is more interested in catching up with New York and London in Financial Field rather than competing with Dubai in building height.

I would say that shenzhen is more in the league with shanghai and other bigger cities, seems more established unlike tianjin and others.

I think it's just the cladding sample. As much as I understand it shows how the inner facade will be connected to the outer skin.

I wish, but the crown alone will take several months to complete. IIRC, it will take 6 months to install, but I may be thinking of 1WTC's spire, so someone correct me please.

Slightly off topic, but does the area infront of the Jin Mao tower (which used to be a green area) now have boarding up around it? Is it another plot? I can't really see clearly...

Inhabitat posted a very long interview with Gensler about the design of this tower

We shouldn't get our hopes up - if something was built there it would surely block the front of Jin Mao.

Just as SWFC has blocked the 'back' of Jin Mao and ST has blocked the side..?
