This picture made me realize that in order for the outer skin to respond to wind pressure and thermal changes - those are probably pistons.

I'm thinking of how the Statue of Liberty's "skin" is supported by an armature that gives under pressure.

I would highly recommend the CCTV series China's Mega Projects, Episode 2 is about Shanghai Tower.

Love the angled reflections, it's like checkerboard cladding

Who wouldn't love this cladding?!!

But I seriously was hoping the color tone of glass would be slightly different. Because in some of the photos above, SWFC and ST both seems to have the same tone. Even in the renders, the color tone of ST looked different than SWFC. Nonetheless, the building by itself will be nothing short of gorgeous.

Wow is the 3rd crane new? I don't remember seeing 3 of them,, they are absolutley flying on this tower,, the whole second truss looks like it's ready for cladding,, I agree with Dunefreezer,, wish it had some kind of color tint,, green perhaps, would look great. By the way the panes of glass are huge,, anybody know appx how many panes of glass will be used on this monster???
