i still would not mind an additional 400m twins beside the cluster and some 250m-350m towers to thicken the cluster

Lujiazui is already a huge cluster which can only be more dense.

Nice comparison, although the NYC one is too old and the Shanghai one is too early.
Also, I take my words back about the density.

yeah when you see it you can look thru on some parts. you can see that there is still a lot space for filling up :P also most of the front towers aren't that tall

Lujiazui is a swamp and I think the soil would prevent it from becomming dense and packed like Lower Manhattan if that is something the urbanplanners would want. I don't know if you can pack too many skyscrapers next to eachother unless you have good soil conditions like in Manhattan and Hong Kong Island.

And it is better that way, they can showcase the beauty of these supertalls without obstruction of low rise buildings... These are like monuments...

It probably has more to do with general approach to urban planning in China than just soil condition in Shanghai. Shenzhen which has ideal conditions for any kind of highrise construction is not as dense as, Manhattan either (albeit probably denser than Lujiazui in comparable locations).

We did have this discussion numerous times already. It has to do with ideology of urban planning and in my view Chinese are doing the right thing unlike some countries in the West (in particular US and UK).

About 10 city have skyline as spectacular as Lujiazhui:

Honkong's Victoria habour
Shenzhen's Futian cbd
Guangzhou's Zhujiang new city
Chongqing's central peninsula
Nanjing's Hexi new city
Beijing cbd
Dalian's Donggang cbd(seashore)
Wuhan's one river two bund
Hangzhou's Qiangjiang new city
Tianjin's Binhai cbd

Why?because Shanghai's soil is very soft if there are too many skyscrapers the ground will sink. And many other Chinese citys have't this condition
I think you can add to this also Suzhou, Shenyang, Qingdao (Huangdao/Jiaonan, Laoshan), Taiyuan, Macau and probably many many more...
