yes, unless skycity gets finished first (which is unlikely in my opinion).
it will stay the second tallest in the world until Ping'an gets finished (Ping'an is about 2 years behind of Shanghai Tower)

I know, what about New York - mega concentration of skyscapers in Manhattan and near TimeSquare. over 5,5k tall buildings. Amazing, yeah. But Shanghai has more and on bigger territory. So for my engl.

Shanghai doesn't have more. Hong Kong is the only city above New York in quantity.

It doesn't matter which city has more towers, this thread is about the Shanghai Tower and the Shanghai Tower only.

As the head of the company (HighRise Systems, Inc.) that was engaged as consultants by Gensler to design the Building Maintenance Systems for Shanghai Tower (both the exterior and interior) I probably am in the best position to answer questions. It was one of our more interesting and challenging assignments, one that I had the personal pleasure of developing the overall concept for our team to put together the Bid Package of Drawings and Specifications. It was also interesting for me to present our design package to the building owner's representatives in Shanghai...and to hear and respond to their questions. If you study the building closely you will note that the height is only a small part of the challenge, the swirl of the exterior (and thus the alignment of the platform stablization system) and the offset spokes of the horizontal wheel-like support bracing at every floor level of each interior atirum.

http://www.gaoloumi.com/viewthread.p...extra=page%3D1 I can only find a chinese link about it. I don't think this project is those kind of over-the-top kind of the project so it is not mentioned much.

So will the Crown be a usable item, or will it just be an oddlike Spire,, I hope it's usable so the sire people don't start crying. I thought I read in the renders that space ws to be occupied by hotels, restaurants, and shops? Was I wrong?

From what I remeber, the highest occupied floor is just below the crown, though I could be wrong, as I don't follow this project too much.

The crown is just ornamental. The highest usable floor will be 557m/1826ft, quite a ways from the top.
