Those buildings look big on their own, in all the up-close pictures in this thread. But those pictures only show them in relation to each other. I know from the numbers that Jin Mao Tower is a pretty huge building. A glance on a list tells me that SWFC is one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. "Yeah, big," I think, and move on. But those pictures don't do them much justice. One building is taller than the other, and a third and even bigger is under construction. My only reference of size is numbers on a list. Myself, the tallest building I've seen with my own eyes is 235 metres tall. It was really huge, but these ones dwarf it. According to the numbers.

The true scale of those buildings only becomes apparent in pictures like those VECTROTALENZIS posted. You see a street with "normally sized" buildings, cars and people walk around. And in the distance, you see them looming over the city in all their glory. Every tiny little horizontal stripe on the SWFC equals one floor. They are so far away that they become blurry through the evening air, several kilometres from where the pictures are taken, yet they are by far the most dominant objects in the picture.

The size of those titans only becomes apparent when you can compare them to everyday objects. Compared to another, they are just three buildings, one slightly bigger than the next.

Well spoken. It's sad but true.

OT the cladding is really fast, it's already time for the second truss belt.

Shanghai has some really nice classical buildings, even though they're mostly faux imitation lookalikes.

Are you talking about The Bund?
Those aren't imitations.

Wow... thanks to all our recent contributors for their pictures of Shanghai and the towers. The neighborhood pictures really give a new perspective to the buildings we usually just see close-up.

In lowai's pictures above (thanks!), that piece of supercolumn reminds me of LEGO pieces being assembled to make a structure of some kind.

I also noticed that they are preparing to jump the cranes.

The tallest buildings I have seen are the Petronas Twins, and it is still hard to grasp the scale of the even standing right in front of them!
Of course, growing up surrounded with mountains, I could compare the buildings to them, but then it makes the buildings seem pathetically small!

Looks like Shanghai will get a new tallest by spring. It has to be at least 450m by now.

lowai what's the cost of living there? Do you pay a lot for that apt? Kinda Personal, just trying to get a feel for the area.
