The observation deck will be at 562m...ehm, I mean 1,844 feet.
It will be the world's highest one and open-air.

Just note, anyway, I had not enough data to calculate with 100% precision the real size, so if you just need some approximate idea of their size this might be enough.
Otherwise please don't take in count what I wrote here.

Another unresolved point is: will they reduce the number of window panes or the width of the panes only, since, while climbing up, the external perimeter gets narrower (=shorter)?
In my model I choose the second solution for time saving reasons, and I've seen some 'official' renders of the crown cladding where the width of the panes is evidently shorter than the panes placed at lower levels, but it's not enough to state the real thing will come out that way
Well I'm not dead on with meters, would that be roughly 15ft by 6-7ft wide? Those have to be damn heavy, what about interior glass? smaller probably?

I hate to say It,, (and I only say it because they should have taken the Shard up some 300 ft or 100 some meters higher. But I think the Shard would look better sitting on top of 1Wtc,(instead of the miniature Tokyo Sky Tree,, (I'm being sarcastic of course), but think about it. It's only twice as tall (The Shard) as this thing their putting on WTC1, and the Shard would look a hell of a lot better than this bird perch on 1WTC, for pigeons, and any other high flying bird to rest and sh*t on it. The Shard would make a beautiful pinnical, and it would leave no doubt NYC would have a megatall.

14,11ft x 6,23ft

I'll give you a hint:
You can let Google calculate it for you. Just type in "4,3 meters in feet".

I terms of figures it is cool. But taking into account the air quality in Shanghai, would we be able to see the city far below through this smog?

Thanks cfredo for the meters/feet conversion ...... I apologize with all English measures users.

As I said, the measures I reported have no claim of 100% precision, but I agree with you about the fact such a wide panes should be rather heavy.
Also, I don't have certain data about the thickness of those panes, but I guess they cannot be thinner than 2 inches (it's ok this way bigreach? ). Also don't know if they're solid or made with two thinner sheets (which may influence the weight).
The substantial weight might also be the reason why they've always begun placing the external 'cage' from the top, so the 'cage' is in some way 'hanged' to the upper truss belt instead than been 'sitting' on the lower one.

including the inner cladding, Shanghai Tower should have the biggest amount of glass needed world wide by far.

For a tall building perhaps, I expect there are airport terminals which use more.
