I don't know how many square meters cladding the Shanghai Tower has, but I just calculated that the Dubai Pearl will have about 285000 square meter of cladding. ( The Shard has 56000m2, Burj Khalifa has 142000m2 )

Well you figure there's enough glass, since you have to double up the cladding on this entire building, that's enough cladding for 4,148 foot bldg, single standing tower, who's skin is built entirely with glass. 1264 meters for our non U.S.friends. And can you remember a bldg on this scale to have ONLY glass? all i can think of is SWFC, and possibly HK's ICC, and these bldgs are only 3/4 the size of ST. So it's safe to assume this bldg,, has more glass than any other building, let alone "anything"? I can think of in the world.

Intriguing matter, even if a bit OT.
About parsonsnose assumption (some airport terminals may have more glass than a glass tower) I think that, thinking to an airport terminal as to an horizontally lying skyscraper (just think to Osaka Kansai terminal, for instance), a tower can have all 4 sides cladded with glass, while an airport terminal will always have 2 sides (roof and floor) made of concrete.
Anyway it's a discussion that, without exact comparative data, brings to nowhere.

Not sure how you can make glass cladding look better than here. So smooth, simple and organic looking.

The building looks really great. Been to other places in china doing presentations but not in shanghai, I really wanna see these three great looking towers in person. SWFC looks really great tho.

Yeah I guess you're right some airports are a mile or even longer, I take that back this Is gotta be the most demand for glass, even over an airport, because most airports have space, concre or what else between their windows.. Maybe the coca cola bottling company, that's the only other direction I can go in.

Anybody know what they plan on filling the top with, or is it just going to be a cladded antennae to add to height,, Hopefully the obs deck is built up in that area.
