i still believe that the final height is more than 580m, i still firmly believe that it is about 650m

You belive or wish?

I hope that it will be "only" 580m, 650m can ruin the balance of pudong skyline.

the detail with ruler.

492/421 = 1.169

492x1.169 = 575m.

As said many times the past year...

I HOPE too it will be ~580m. Higher will be disgracious in the skyline, I agree with luci203.

Tallest Chinese building features indoor gardens

By Chen Qian | 2008-7-24 | NEWSPAPER EDITION

A PLANNED skyscraper in Pudong that would become the tallest building in China will include nine gardens on different floors, according to Oriental Morning Post.

Construction of the 580-meter-tall Shanghai Center in Lujiazui is expected to begin at the end of this year and finish by 2014. The gardens will be built in the space between the main building and an outer glass curtain wall, United States firm Gensler told the newspaper.

The gardens will be divided into nine vertical sections with a height of more than 10 meters each.

A public park will also be built within the building. Construction will adopt sustainable techniques to reduce energy use and make it environmentally friendly.

According to its architects, the top of the skyscraper will look like either a turned-up dragon tail or an inverted Olympic torch.

Shanghai Center is not to be confused with the Shanghai Center on Nanjing Road W. in Puxi. The Chinese names of the two are different.

With a total construction area of 380,000 square meters, Shanghai Center will have offices, a hotel, stores and entertainment facilities.

The firm told Oriental Morning Post it will try to make the building blend in with the 420-meter-tall Jin Mao Tower and the 492-meter-tall Shanghai World Financial Center nearby.

The Shanghai World Financial Center is now the tallest building in China and it will fully open after the Beijing Olympics, Shanghai Morning Post reported yesterday. Some office sections in the tower are already in use while the hotel and some restaurants will open in September.

However, security checks started early this month, according to the newspaper.

Every taxi and car will be checked before entering the building while people who want to enter the office floors need to pass a metal detector and open their bags for a manual check.

So, I think it will be 580m., not more, the tops of the 3 towers making a geometric ascending spiral.

Maybe they will build a 600-700m tower in the future.

North PUXI is "bald" skyscrapers wise... It might be a good place for a megatall.

These are really old visions. Tonns of similar creative ideas and visions is been presented each year which goes far beyond todays architecture and construction. Not that the height of Bionic Tower is that much way of today though, but it was a striking height when it was presented some 10-15 years ago.

This tower solidifies Shanghai as a city with buildings that does not talk to each other...........sort of like a display of buildings made by architectural students competing for the coveted price of passing the drafting class. Design-wise, they'll all pass. But building them together permanently in one place.............hoho......I'll fail the professor for approving it.

I like to think of it like a sculpture garden with function.

It's been in that model for years - some other project must have replaced it, unfortunately.

That is too bad. PUXI don't have a very tall one. That look like a +400m (flat roof)

I thought it was Plazza 66 1&2, but it's not the good loacation. Watching Google Earth map, I can't see any high building in this area.
