This fact is backed by the fact that automobile ownership in China is increasing at a quick pace and that more poeple own cars in China than any other nation in the world. China is the number one polluter of the world and the foolish urbanization policies followed by many of its cities will ensure that it will not only continue to hold that title, but continually strengthen it for a very long time.
I think they have the right idea when building apartment blocks spaced apart. It not only accommodates a large number of people in one city block, but it helps the aesthetics of the local environment by providing open space for flora and room for people to move (something very rare in the heart of the big cities). More people own cars in China than any other country in the world because China is 20% of the world population! Car ownership per capita still lags behind Western countries. If you talk about issues such as this and pollution, you must think in terms of per capita. Otherwise things would not be fair and thus not make any sense. Would it scare you to think the US emits about the same amount of CO2 as China as a whole but only has 1/6 of China's population?

But its a beautiful building so who cares! Lets continue to sleepwalk to a world broken beyond repair, we're only human.
Don't worry about it, it's not going to have the effect you think it will.

I'll offer my personal two cents and say that the Shanghai Tower is not my favorite building. However, this is completely subjective on my part as I've had a disliking for curvy, organic buildings. The Trump Tower emulates my feelings as well.

However, in total, I think that this building will look magnificent at night in the Shanghai skyline as a whole. The broad spectrum of colors, designs and auroras will provide for a truly magnificent landscape portrait. The Shanghai tower looks good only in Shanghai, but that's fine.

I heard the podium mall is going to be high-end, but considering IFC is just right next door, what store of brands will the mall get?

Im looking forward to those brands that represent high-end fashion but are not in IFC for example YSL, McQueen and Givenchy.
