Yes, that's what I've seen on Google Earth too. No massive building in the area, maybe some old plan.

My stupid remark of the day: I repeat myself, but every pic I've seen so far shows a tower that's taller than 580 meters. Not by much - 630, or 650 maybe. But then it may just be that all these renders are unofficial, or inaccurate. Or, the difference between this "core height" and the total height that someone mentioned is actually something to be taken into account.

I never thought I'd be saying this - and it's obviously not that old - but the Pearl of the Orient Tower looks dated already.

It was pretty dated from inception, but like it or not, it has become an icon of Shanghai. Still kind of an eyesore though.

yeah, i think its that violet colour plus the rusty look of the concrete. a little renovation would be great.
